Introduction to role

As a pivotal member of the Global Business Services (GBS) team, the Business Partner serves as the primary liaison between GBS and the business area they represent. This role is essential in ensuring seamless communication and collaboration, acting as the single point of contact for the Senior Executive Team (SET) and their Leadership Teams (LTs). The Business Partner will orchestrate cross-functional teams within GBS, fostering an environment of innovation, efficiency, and continuous improvement to meet the evolving needs of the business. The role demands a strategic mindset, strong commercial acumen, and an ability to forge strong relationships both internally and externally. Responsibilities include translating business strategies into operational plans, facilitating the delivery of GBS services, and driving value creation through effective stakeholder engagement and service excellence.

Specifically, this role will work within the GBS R&D Services Tower and focus on business partnering with the R&D business of Alexion, the Rare Disease Unit (RDU). The GBS R&D Services Tower is currently in its initial establishment phase and as such the role holder’s initial focus will be translating business needs into operational GBS offerings. The importance of monitoring and reporting of performance will increase as the service tower matures.

Accountabilities

The role holder will be accountable for:
• Acting as the primary interface between GBS R&D Services and Alexion R&D, ensuring alignment and seamless delivery of services.
• Collaborating with Alexion R&D LTs to shape and execute business strategies through GBS capabilities.
• Initiate the development of business cases for the delivery of new demand or services.
• Identifying opportunities to leverage GBS capabilities to drive business growth and operational efficiency across the Alexion business.
• Collaborate with capability teams, including the Head of the Enterprise Capability to design and implement solutions that meet business needs effectively.
• Leading cross-functional teams within GBS to deliver integrated services that meet business needs.
• Managing relationships with key stakeholders to ensure high levels of satisfaction and engagement.
• Manage senior-level stakeholders, including Country President/Area VP/CFO/Business Unit Heads etc.
• Monitor and evaluate the performance of GBS services to ensure they meet the agreed service levels and business expectations.
• Ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and standards in service delivery.
• Representing GBS in strategic planning sessions and contributing to broader organizational development initiatives.

Essential Skills/Experience


• Proven experience in a business partnering role within a shared services or GBS environment.
• Experience of working in a global pharmaceutical organisation, and robust understanding of the drug development life-cycle and R&D processes.
• Proven track record of innovation in the drug development lifecycle and R&D processes.
• Excellent understanding of latest developments in technology and analytic capabilities (e.g. Artificial intelligence).
• Strong strategic and analytical capabilities with the ability to translate business strategies into viable business cases and actionable plans.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and influence in a matrix organization, with strong stakeholder management skills.
• Experience in driving process improvements and managing service delivery in a complex organizational setting.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage and inspire diverse teams.
• Strong commercial acumen and understanding of business operations.
• Ability to work effectively across cultures and geographies, fostering an inclusive and collaborative work environment.
• Experience in developing and implementing GBS capabilities.
• Familiarity with industry best practices and benchmarks in shared service.

Desirable Skills/Experience


• GBS Acumen: Comprehensive understanding of the GBS space as well as a clear understanding of the external marketplace (current & future) to shape new opportunities. Experience in both Captive and BPO.
• Experience in the rare disease pharmaceutical market.
• Experience working with Contract Research Organisations (CROs).
• Experience in transformation programmes, with a significant technology-driven element.
