Introduction to role
As a Data Analysis Specialist, you will tackle complex data challenges, working under the guidance of experienced Data Analysts. Your role will involve supporting intricate data tasks, ensuring data quality, and translating business problems into data solutions.
Accountabilities
- Work autonomously on simple data analysis challenges or under supervision for more complex tasks.
- Collaborate with business users to define data requirements and translate unstructured problems into data solutions.
- Profile data to understand its provenance, quality, metadata models, ownership, and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Perform ad hoc data wrangling to support Data Science model generation and business insights.
- Assist data engineers in developing Source to Target pipelines (e.g., ETL design).
- Design and test the quality and performance of derivative data models in downstream reporting and analytics solutions.
- Process requests for compliant access to data.
- Define and manage information lifecycle management in data solutions.
- Provide data understanding to Architects, Data Engineers, and Data Scientists for use in Analytics projects.
- Support IT and business data teams in identifying and managing Critical Data Assets and Elements.
- Collaborate with Risk, Assurance, Privacy, Information Security, and Regulatory authorities to ensure adherence to data controls.
- Communicate insights and results clearly and objectively, including uncertainties and limitations.
- Pursue personal development and training in advanced data analysis skills, techniques, and tools.
- Develop domain data expertise in a specific area (e.g., chemistry, finance).
- Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Data Management, or a related discipline (R&D, Finance, HR) or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated experience in a data analyst or business role aligned with data and information management.
- Blend of data requirement analysis, data quality analysis, and data stewardship skills.
- Experience translating requirements into fit-for-purpose data models, processing designs, and profile reports.
- Proficiency in data modeling technologies.
- Experience in Agile data definition scrums.
- Familiarity with metadata cataloguing tools.
- Knowledge of key AZ policies and standards for data privacy and security.
- Strong written and verbal communication and consultancy skills.
- Awareness of end-to-end processes in building and supporting Data solutions.
- Experience applying a risk-based methodology to data and information management.
Desirable Skills/Experience
- Experience with Cloud Solutions, preferably hands-on with continuous integration or highly automated environments.
- Understanding of architecture and Data integration pipelines.
- Industry experience with large, complex data settings and optimization skills.
- Experience reusing metadata and prebuilt components from cataloguing tools.
- Awareness of the external market for data-related technology and best practices.
- Exposure to Data Pipelines (Ingest & Store, Data Preparation, Discover & Present, Insight & Experience).
