Senior Scientist in Translational Pathology, Oncology

Join AstraZeneca's Translational Pathology group within the Oncology R&D Cancer Development Biomarker department as a Senior Scientist! Here, you'll have the chance to influence an industry-leading portfolio, from early clinical development of novel therapeutics to post-marketing opportunities for approved targeted therapies. Accountabilities:

In this dynamic role, you'll harness the best available science and technology to develop innovative assays for measuring biomarkers in clinical tissues. Your work will generate crucial disease linkage data, guiding indication selection and identifying targeted patient populations. You'll measure drug target engagement, informing clinical decisions on therapeutically relevant doses and schedules. Dive deep into cancer pathway interactions to guide rational drug combinations and uncover novel mechanisms of resistance by studying tumors at relapse. Essential Skills/Experience:

  • PhD plus at least 2 years experience in industry/a relevant field.
  • Knowledge in one or more AZ portfolio areas: tumor drivers and resistance, DNA damage response (DDR), immuno-oncology (IO), epigenetics or antibody drug conjugates (ADC).
  • Skilled in development and validation of biomarker assays.
  • Experience in manual or automated immunohistochemistry (IHC) (brightfield or fluorescence).
  • Experience in microscopy and carrying out digital image analysis.
  • Ability to lead from the bench in problem solving and the development of innovative solutions.
  • Peer-reviewed publications in the field of translational pathology or cancer biology.


Desirable Skills/Experience:

  • Expertise in one or more AZ portfolio areas, including related biology and knowledge of translational approaches to developing therapeutics for cancer.
  • Experience working with human tissues and tissue-based histopathology methods.
  • Experience of conducting studies for Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
  • Skills in developing multiplexed IHC or in situ hybridization (ISH) assays.
  • Career exposure to the pharmaceutical industry and the drug development process.
