Accountabilities
The role of the AstraZeneca Global Indirect Tax team is to ensure that the implementation of business decisions is both practical and profitable from a tax perspective while managing risk. It is pivotal in setting the strategy for risk management and control frameworks, attending and resolving controversy matters, driving efficiencies, and providing technical indirect tax advice to the business.
We partner with the business to support with its strategic goals. We provide world-class knowledge, insight, and advice in the area of indirect tax as it relates to AstraZeneca.
This role is responsible for business partnering, advising on commercial and clinical operations, leading, managing and resolving controversies, risk management, and control frameworks.
What you'll do:
- Lead, manage and resolve complex VAT audits.
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive risk management and tax control frameworks.
- Advise the business regarding the indirect tax impact of existing and new supply chains.
- Effective business partnering to secure technical guidance is provided to stakeholders on BAU & new operations.
- Provide support and updates to the business related to indirect tax.
- Identify areas for process improvement/harmonization/savings.
- Work collaboratively with our compliance outsource provider on technical matters to drive compliance improvements and drive data quality and efficiencies.
- Identify and escalate issues of risks and compliance failings.
- Monitor available information with other Taxes in mind and liaise closely with the wider Group Tax team.
Essential Skills/Experience
- You will be an indirect tax advisor, preferably with a professional qualification, and several years of experience in providing indirect tax advice in a large MNC organisation or with HMRC background.
- Strong indirect tax technical capability with a good knowledge of both UK and international indirect tax issues.
- Strong experience leading and managing complex VAT audits.
- Experience with global risk management and tax control frameworks.
- Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Strong ability to manage numerous complex projects, progress actions in a coordinated and organised manner and meet tight deadlines.
- Experience working alongside government affairs, and/or working across multi government departments.
- Able to build strong relationships and maintain a network of contacts with other people at a variety of levels across AstraZeneca and external stakeholders (e.g. AZ teams and stakeholders, advisors, vendors, customers, and tax authorities).
- Excellent team working ethos, interpersonal skills, ability to make decisions and confidence to express opinions.
Desirable Skills/Experience
- Experience in pharmaceutical industry or in practice to the industry clients
