IT DevOps Senior Platform Engineer

AstraZeneca is currently looking for a Sr. Platform Engineer to join our R&D IT Team to manage and maintain our Operational clinical development platform (OCD) within GUAD, that is GxP compliant, part of Clinical Development Platforms and supporting mission critical function of running clinical trials run both internally and across external partners.  It is broadly classified into 6 products that comprises of various technologies/SAS Products. You will be a part of our core platform team, which is operating in BizDevOps model, therefore will be responsible to work cross product with other team members such as Product Lead, Release Manager, Business Analysts, Dev Ops Lead.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate in service-related activities with business & IT stakeholders as part of scrum team
  • Perform delivery activities through Design/Build/Test/Deploy phases for regular releases across products
  • Deploy patches and any version upgrades across cross products for infrastructure inhouse applications.
  • Responsible to maintain the work product log for functional and integration configuration across products in OCD Platform
  • Responsible for preparation of SDLC documentation - service related.
  • Participate actively in service transition when new application/new product is introduced as part of OCD Platform & Drive small modules in support transitions and ensure application stability when taking over BAU support of new applications/products.
  • Ensure that all products - security and control procedures are implemented and maintained.
  • Generate and implement ideas to simplify process that will lead to business value.
  • Troubleshoot issues with dev ops engineers, monitor key metrics and maintain overall health of the platform.
  • Work with the Integration team to edit/update/maintain integration interfaces.
  • Work with Testing team to manage capacity – across products.
  • Work with Enterprise teams to resolve issues related to infrastructure storrage, Cloud, Network, Citrix
  • Work with software vendors on product requirements and issues related to the platform, security set-up and functional configuration.
  • Utilize JIRA for requirements gathering, validation/testing and go-live activities during releases.
  • Responsible to solve day-to-day incidents, service requests and work towards incident-reduction and automation. Also, update Service Now (ticket management tool) for all events with respect to the incidents, service requests, changes and problems.
  • Responsible for maintaining SLA’s & customer satisfaction scores and take actions to improve them.
  • Guide and mentor developers to adhere to AZ principles for designing, building, testing, and deploying robust, maintainable, and scalable software solutions.
  • Oversight the quality of build activities performed by direct reports to deliver features across various products.
  • Develop reusable components, APIs, and libraries to standardize development practices.
  • Ensure the adoption of tools and best practices to ensure high-quality code, including code reviews, unit testing, and continuous integration.

MANDATORY SKILLS:

  • Ensures the overall health and wellness across products in OCD Platform Designs, implements, and maintains platform security
  • Experience with cloud technologies (AWS & Azure)
  • Experience with working in any of the clinical products – EDC, Saama, IRT systems
  • Knowledge on file systems, storage devices and ACL’s.
  • Proven experience in engineering and software architecture design.
  • Sound knowledge of various operating systems and databases.
  • Efficient communication skills.
  • Working with architects and building enterprise architecture roadmaps
  • Experience designing, integrating and managing complex infrastructure solutions
  • Knowledge of client-server networking and database management
  • Ability to provide technical system solutions, determine overall design direction and provide hardware recommendations for complex technical issues
  • Experience planning and developing support processes and adhering to best practices
  • Knowledge of support processes like Incident Management, Problem Management, Change Management and experience working in support teams.
  • Experience working with JIRA, Confluence, Git, automated testing tools such as JIRA (X-Ray), HP ALM, Selenium
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with people across the globe with diverse cultures and backgrounds.
  • Experience of working in agile teams using methodologies such as SCRUM, Kanban and SAFe.
  • Experience in working with GxP systems & documentation.
  • Experience in managing team of 5-6 people & do line management activities.
  • Should be able to manage recruitment & work with Talent Acquisition in GUAD & collaborate with all Product leads, Dev-ops Lead, Clinical delivery lead
  • Demonstrate willingness and attitude to take on different roles within Platform team as when opportunity arises

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of CI/CD practices and utilization of Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes
  • Knowledge of Splunk, SnapLogic & reporting with Power BI
  • Familiar with relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and non-SQL databases such as Mongo DB
  • Passion for learning, innovating and delivering valuable software to people.
  • Experience working in Software Development projects including custom full stack (e.g., Java, Python, C#, JavaScript) programming and data integration.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and tools like Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps.
  • Hands-on experience with containerization and orchestration tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Familiarity with version control systems, especially Git.
  • Strong understanding of software design principles and patterns.
  • Competence in database management and querying (SQL and NoSQL).
  • Exposure to cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Experience with monitoring tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana) and logging systems (e.g., ELK Stack, Splunk).
  • Scripting skills for process automation (e.g., Bash, PowerShell, Python).

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Math, Computer Science, Information Science, or equivalent degree is preferred but not required. We will hire self-taught engineers without a formal education given that you have evidence of rich history of software engineering.

8+ years of relevant IT experience
