Executive Director, U.S. Strategic Accounts

The Executive Director, US Strategic Accounts will be responsible for all activities related to the Strategic Accounts Team business for the entire US market. The candidate will lead a team of Senior Directors focused on the development and execution of franchise strategies that will impact Alexion’s business model within this critical customer base. They will work closely with their cross-functional business colleagues focused on achieving annual goals and growth expectations for the entire US business.  This position reports to the VP of the US Strategic Accounts & US Diagnostics.

You will be responsible for:

  • Leading US Strategic Account Management Team
  • Achieving successful growth for the Alexion franchise through clear, specific objectives (KPIs) and well supported leadership initiatives that result in synergistic outcomes for business partners and ultimately patients.
  • Developing and ensuring optimal execution of the national/regional plans; managing the annual Strategic Account budget accordingly
  • Hiring, leading, coaching, developing, motivating, and inspiring the Strategic Account Management Team
  • Identifying future investments to maximize the enterprise opportunity in every setting of care.
  • Ensuring the activities under responsibility meet the highest ethical standards, are in full compliance with the Alexion Code of Ethics and Business Conduct, and are in line with company policies and procedures
  • Collaborating closely with all department management heads to ensure seamless execution of marketing, contracting, and value-based initiatives are operationalized within the department of US Strategic Accounts & US Diagnostics
  • Overseeing handling of priority critical accounts and ensures best in class customer service to all accounts.
  • Ensuring operational systems are in place for the managed role and/or identifying future capability needs that would result in future organization performance growth.
  • Ensuring leadership collaboration and participation with all US based Business Units
  • Working closely with leadership from market access, marketing, medical affairs, sales, TLLs, and HEOR teams to drive holistic strategies designed to align Alexon in a customer centric approach.
  • Collaborating cross functionally with Global Sales and Marketing Operations on Sales Training, Business Analytics well as Legal & Compliance

You will need to have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Minimum of 15 years’ experience in the pharma and/or biopharma industry including significant experience managing pharma and/or biopharma sales teams in the US market.
  • Minimum of 5 years leading Regional or National teams in the US market
  • 5 years large account management experience
  • Significant experience in specialty pharma account management, preferably with, rare disorders, with channel, institutional, integrated delivery systems and community accounts
  • Successful track record of leading, developing and managing the performance of large account teams in delivering outstanding results
  • Demonstrated ability to convert business insights into actionable strategies to grow the business including Experience shaping the growth strategy for a global franchise
  • Excellent communication skills with high learning agility and clear business and scientific acumen
  • Strong history of leadership, teamwork and cross functional collaboration that has resulted in significant accomplishments within an organization
  • Previous experience in one or more of the following areas is an advantage: Marketing, Product Launch, Finance, Sales Operations
  • Ability to travel within the US on a regular basis which will include overnight and/or weekend travel
  • The duties of this role are generally conducted in a field environment.  As is typical of a field-based role, employees must be able, with or without an accommodation to: travel by public transportation, automobile, train, or plane; work comfortably in a clinical setting; use a computer; engage in communications via phone, video, and electronic messaging; problem solve; engage in complex and non-linear thought, analysis, and dialogue; collaborate with others; maintain general availability during standard business hours.  

We would prefer for you to have:

  • Scientific background highly desirable
  • Master’s Degree preferred
