We work seamlessly and inclusively to truly leverage the diversity of our skills and go further together. Now hiring for a Capability Onboarding and Field Excellence Lead (COFEL) can be remote in field if greater than 50 miles to our site in our North American Headquarters in Gaithersburg, MD.  You will be a key member of a focused strategic team driving medical excellence across the whole of US Medical Affairs (USMA), through innovative and rigorous onboarding and training programs. Accountable for the strategic directionand implementation ofonboarding and training plans across the medical therapeutical franchises, head office and field roles.

This position will take the lead for new hire onboarding, continuing education and training by pulling together assets, across AstraZeneca as well as external expertise to build a world class, training, and capability development organizationIn addition, you will be responsible for leading strategies and initiatives on onboarding, training and capability development.

Work cross-matrix to ensure that all training, and capability development needs for the USMA are in alignment with:

  • Requirements from the medical franchises
  • Assets from the Global Medical Affairs organization
  • Compliance and ethics requirements of the US market and AstraZeneca

Accountabilities

  • Define, build, and maintain a new-hire onboarding, training and capability development strategy that will ensure robust compliant and consistent onboarding of all new hires to USMA
  • Accountable for defining and executing the capability development and training strategy for the US Medical Affairs organization
  • Lead on the identification, articulation and alignment of capability, content, and training needs of the US Medical Affairs organization, both current needs and the needs for the future to enable the USMA business strategy 
  • Collaborate with Franchise Heads and their teams to identify key gaps in current capability and training competencies
  • Lead, conduct and report on audits of content assets to determine performance of existing assets
  • Work cross-functionally across departments to create assets to fulfill identified training gaps
  • Represent the United States on Global Capability/content and training projects/interventions ensuring the needs of AstraZeneca’s largest market are considered, influencing global strategy.
  • Develop new hire learning pathways for field and HQ USMA positions
  • Accountable for developing a high performing teamculture of performance development, accountability inclusion and diversity

Minimum qualifications

  • Master’s degreein a scientific discipline (Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Nursing, etc.)
  • 2+ years Oncology therapeutic area experience (academic research, clinical or pharma/biotech setting),
  • Experience in scientific writing and content development
  • Effective matrix leadership experience
  • Experience leading or working in a customer facing medical role
  • Collaborative/matrix management skills with a focus on leading diverse groups (e.g., cultural, geographical, functional) to achieve excellent results in shared goals
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to distil complexity down to what matters to our stakeholders
  • Proven strong Project Management skills

Desired qualifications

  • PharmD, PhD, MD in lifesciences preferred
  • Current or previous experience in US Medical Affairs function within the pharmaceutical industry
  • Working knowledge of FDA (Food and Drug Administration) requirements
  • Experience working in the US pharmaceutical manufacturers market
