Are you ready to take accountability and be trusted to innovate every day? As a member of the US Federal Government Affairs and Policy team, the Director, Federal Government Affairs will guide AstraZeneca’s public policy initiatives on Capitol Hill. This position is dedicated to improving patient access to innovative medicines, promoting quality healthcare, and supporting scientific progress.

In this role, you will proactively shape constructive policy solutions, build trusted relationships with policymakers and stakeholders, and collaborate with internal, cross-functional teams to deliver outcomes that improve patient health and sustain innovation. This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on patient lives and our enterprise by advancing positive, evidence-based policies and constructively addressing proposals that could hinder access, affordability, and biomedical innovation.

What you'll do

  • Maintain,establish, and cultivate relationships with Members of Congress and relevant personal office and Committee staff to create value-add opportunities that raise the company’s visibility in Washington, DC, and promote company’s public policyobjectives.

  • Lead the development and take responsibility in the execution of congressional engagement strategies

  • Ability to work effectively in a team and cross-functionally with multiple internal departments.

  • Drive federal policy development onrelevantissues through cross-functional engagement with internal subject matter experts. 

  • Understand the company’s business goals andpriorities;and work closely with colleagues throughout corporate affairs to advance shared goals.

  • Engage anddemonstrateleadership with trade associations and/or coalitions in which the companyparticipates; maintain strong working relationships with key influencers. 

  • Serve as a resource to business colleagues on emerging legislative and political issues of importance to the company 

  • Provide political and strategic legislativeexpertiseon activities critical to achieving corporateobjectivesand serving on various internal work groups.

  • Participate in the management of the federal political action committee and the grassroots political program

  • Represent the company at political events for key Members of Congress and campaign committees. 

  • Develop,track,and execute AZPAC’s annual candidate support budget.

Essential for the role

  • Bachelor'sdegree

  • 8+ years of experience in government, government affairs, public affairs, or policy or related experience

  • Healthcare sector experience

  • Strong interpersonal,oraland written communications, and strategic thinking capabilities

  • Proficiencyin standard business software applications

Desirable for the role

  • Graduate degree

  • Experience in government, public policy, and/or legal affairs.

  • Experience working on Capitol Hill or in a corporate environment

  • Robust understanding of pharmaceutical supply chain issues, as well as the health care landscape generally

  • Strong network and relationships with key Congressional stakeholders especially with the Senate

  • Familiarity with political action committees

Office Working Requirements

The annual base pay for this position ranges from $151,753.60 - 227,630.40 USD. Our positions offer eligibility for various incentives—an opportunity to receive short-term incentive bonuses, equity-based awards for salaried roles and commissions for sales roles. Benefits offered include qualified retirement programs, paid time off (i.e., vacation, holiday, and leaves), as well as health, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms of the applicable plans. ​
