Discovery Sciences is a multi-faceted department which drives early drug discovery across AstraZeneca’s global Research & Development portfolio. Mechanistic Biology & Profiling (part of Discovery Sciences), is a global, multidisciplinary department responsible for mechanism-of-action studies and compound profiling for efficacy and pre-clinical safety in support of the Oncology, Cardiovascular and Renal Disease, Respiratory, Inflammation & Autoimmunity, and Neuroscience portfolios.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting directly to the US Associate Director of the Mechanistic Biology & Profiling Department you will be an integral member of a team generating pre-clinical pharmacology data to predict and understand compound (and novel drug modalities) efficacy in the exciting area of Epigenetics.
You will provide early, impactful mechanistic enzymology insight to Epigenetic projects across the Oncology disease area. You will be a skilled and passionate lab-based scientist, able to represent the department across a range of therapeutic projects and global initiatives, and also externally. You will drive scientific and technical innovation, including through external collaboration and partnership.
- Formal training and proven expertise - PhD and at least 3 years of relevant experience postdoc or industry experience in a quantitative biology-based discipline (enzymology, pharmacology)
- Significant external reputation in enzymology in the context of epigenetic target characterisation, gained through professional recognition, external presentation and publication in high-impact journals
- Experience of establishing and leading external collaborations
- Track record of delivering results across a diverse project portfolio
- Experience in pre-clinical drug discovery
