Scientist/Senior Scientist, Translational Genomics, Oncology

Lieu Waltham, Massachusetts, États-Unis Job ID R-064950 Date de publication 11/01/2019

At AstraZeneca we work together across global boundaries to make an impact and find answers to challenges. We do this with the upmost integrity even in the most difficult situations because we are committed to doing the right thing. We continuously forge partnerships that help pursue world-class medicines in new ways, combining our people’s exceptional skills with those of people from all over the globe. As a Scientist/Senior Scientist, Translational Genomics, Oncology in Waltham, MA, you’ll play a pivotal role in channeling our scientific capabilities to make a positive impact on changing patients’ lives. IMED (Innovative Medicines and Early Development) focuses on scientific advances in small molecules, oligonucleotides and other emerging technologies and drug discovery platforms across our focus areas.

AstraZeneca’s vision in Oncology is to help patients by redefining the cancer-treatment paradigm, with the aim of bringing six new cancer medicines to patients between 2013 and 2020. A broad pipeline of next-generation medicines is focused principally on four disease areas - breast, ovarian, lung and hematological cancers. As well as other tumor types, these are being targeted through four key platforms - immunotherapy, the genetic drivers of cancer and resistance, DNA damage repair, and antibody drug conjugates, underpinned by personalized healthcare and biomarker technologies.

The Oncology IMED Translational Science function exists to ensure effective and strategic biomarker studies for oncology project teams.  Closely interacting with the pre-clinical iScience, Early Clinical Development, and Personalized Healthcare diagnostics functions, IMED Translational Science is the single point of accountability for delivery of robust, scientifically-driven biomarkers to all Oncology project teams, providing feasibility assessments, technical validation, centralized biomarker analysis capability for clinical samples, and early clinical phase engagement. The Translational Genomics function leverages Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) and other advanced technologies to match the right patient to the right drug and support precision medicine approaches for the AZ Oncology pipeline.

Major Responsibilities and Accountabilities

You will be responsible for performing work in a genomics lab – planning, designing, and executing experimental work, then documenting and communicating results to appropriate partners.  You will deliver genomic information to AZ project teams and other partners using NGS and other leading edge technologies. You will develop and maintain internal genomics lab capability with a focus primarily on sample accessioning and preparation; DNA/RNA purification, quantification, and QC; NGS library construction and QC; and DNA/RNA sequencing.  You will be involved in data analysis/QC, trouble-shooting, interpretation of results, and communication back to lab and project teams. You will be conceptualizing, developing, and executing evaluations of platforms, vendors, and emerging technologies of clinical and translational utility and applying this knowledge to address relevant needs. You will provide technical advice and genomic/biomarker consultation to internal and external partners.  You will , leverage software such as a LIMS system for sample annotation and tracking, , electronic lab notebooks for documentation, software for QC and analysis of data, and written reports clearly and concisely summarizing results.  You will work effectively with Translational Science Strategists to consult on technologies, set expectations, develop project biomarker plans, use fit-for-purpose platforms and approaches, and deliver report summaries to project teams and partner lines.

You will lead lab-based biomarker identification focused on project needs to deliver clinically qualified biomarkers that will guide dose selection, schedule, patient stratification and selection.  You will identify exploratory biomarkers relevant for drug response/resistance, patient stratification, and disease progression. You will ensure that all nominated biomarkers are fit for purpose in the clinical environment.  You will work in collaboration with pre-clinical iScience to develop support for biomarker hypotheses and with Personalized Healthcare and Biomarkers, Regulatory, and other partners to develop companion diagnostics and clinical data for internal and external projects. You will maintain appropriate documentation, be compliant with internal and external requirements, assist in preparation of regulatory documents and responses to questions, and participate in external presentation of results and peer-reviewed journal publications
