Position Title: Medical Science Liaison – Cardio/Renal/Metabolic (Diabetes)

Position Type: Regular, Full-Time

Location: Western Canada (BC and either SK or MAN)

Our Medical Science Liaisons engage in relevant, objective scientific exchange with health care professionals in an effort to facilitate scientific discovery and informed treatment decisions. You will join a team recognized for scientific expertise and patient centricity.


  • You review emerging data with Healthcare Professionals (HCPs) discussing benefits and risks in a scientific, objective and unbiased way
  • You interact with HCPs as scientific consultants to engage in scientific activities aligned with corporate projects such as advisory boards, speaker programs and clinical trials
  • You identify HCPs with the scientific acumen and expertise to collaborate on forward-thinking basic and pre-clinical research identified in our target planning
  • You stay abreast of information and provide AstraZeneca with an understanding of regional HCPs, their practices and related key issues and trends in disease treatment so we can continue to build strong relationships and discover new ideas for research
  • You act as a regional (field-based) subject matter expert in the lifecycle management of products in a variety of therapeutic areas
  • You will uncover opportunities for research with HCP’s and, where appropriate, you connect these opportunities to the Medical Advisor as part of the Externally Sponsored Research (ESR) process
  • You support key clinical trial sites by providing expert scientific expertise on the molecule being investigated either during site initiation or shortly thereafter
  • You collaborate with clinical operations groups to ensure successful recruitment of clinical sites

Your qualifications include:

  • You have the ability to effectively synthesize and communicate scientific information at a peer level with a physician. You are able to connect with the HCP to discuss rewarding scientific exchange
  • You have previous experience as a healthcare professional (PharmD, MD) or one with scientific expertise including PhD or MSc
  • You have two years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry in a physician-facing role with a deep understanding of the health care environment with regards to Opinion Leaders, Academia and the Medical Community in general
  • You are experienced in the therapeutic area of Nephrology/ Cardiovascular/ Diabetes is preferred, however, you may at times be required to change therapeutic areas to adapt to business needs; you have an Excellent ability to learn and capacity for scientific concepts and knowledge
  • You are well-organized and a self-starter with strong communication and business skills
  • You positively impact and influence others and quickly establish credibility while building strong business relationships
  • You can travel frequently (local, national and global) and you hold a valid driver's license (a valid driver abstract requested at time of acceptance)
