Finance Associate Director, Clinical Trials Oncology R&D

Location: Warsaw

Hybrid Model: 3 days per week from office

This role is set within global R&D Finance team supporting global Science Units and development of new medicines.

Role will give detailed exposure to our core business & provide an incredible learning ground and experience.

About the Role

Finance Associate Director in the remit of external project costs will be accountable for Clinical – Study Management Oncology R&D business unit and the processes within the remit, governance and all controls involved. They will be challenging and improving team performance, being a gate keeper and strong support for the team. Finance Associate Director will engage with senior business leaders and R&D Finance; providing advice, guidance and support, enabling and influencing decision making to achieve optimal performance.

They will be leading members of a global team of Clinical Finance Business Partners.

Typical Accountabilities

  • The role broadly includes the following key components:
  • Business Partnering with the Clinical – Study Management Oncology R&D business unit.
  • Using a good understanding of the business model and financial drivers, to challenge and influence the key cost drivers.
  • Driving month-end process and communication to R&D Finance on significant changes.
  • Developing reliable financial forecasts and driving budget management for the business units, ensuring financial targets are hit.
  • Driving financial performance and delivering reporting and commentary of performance, linking business drivers to actual spend and forecast.
  • Working closely with Global Project Teams and R&D Finance to ensure effectiveness in the defined controls and external financial audits.
  • Communicating governance and compliance standards and statutory regulations to non-specialists in a way that is understandable and relevant.
  • Leading insightful and proactive risk management processes to ensure the organisation’s regulations, rules and processes are adhered to, highlighting areas of concern and addressing the potential issues.
  • Promoting continuous improvement of the processes, sharing best practice across the business and broader finance team.
  • Implementing standardisation and benchmarking within the area of responsibility.
  • Developing the financial understanding of non-finance managers.
  • Leading, developing and managing the sizeable team (10-12 FTEs).

Essential skills and experience

  • Experience of working in a global pharmaceutical organisation and deep understanding of the drug development life cycle
  • Successful business partnering experience
  • Strong knowledge of financial modelling and analysis, budgeting and forecasting, and generally accepted accounting principles
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, including oral & written
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team and liaising with senior managers
  • Ability to work effectively in a complex, global environment while appreciating and respecting cultural and organisational diversity
  • Organisational agility – builds consensus through formal and informal channels and relationships
  • Customer focus – dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers
  • General people and management experience
  • Successful track record of developing others and strong coaching skills
  • Proficiency in English
