You are a finance professional with accounting experience & an interest in finance systems.  Now you’re ready to join a large global company in critical area of our business, focused on the accounting & systems behind our clinical trial costs.   

As part of a dynamic, global finance team, your primary focus will be on the managing the clinical trial cost system, ACCORD (AstraZeneca Clinical Cost Online Reporting Database an in-house developed system critical to the monthly reporting process & is the primary tool for forecasting clinical study costs.), the business processes around it and participate in the reporting structure reorganization in the Clinical Finance Team.

You will work closely to support the clinical finance business partners who are closely connected with the study teams running the clinical trials. You will liaise with the AZ Global Finance Operations teams to ensure all the transactions are correct & the Global Finance Systems teams to understand & manage the interfaces between systems.  Plus, work with the wider finance community & lead on continuous improvements & changes to both the processes & systems according to business need.

As a unique role in the clinical finance team in Warsaw, you will have exposure to our core Science Unit areas & the clinical finance experts whilst developing excellent customer relationship skills.

Accountabilities

Your main accountabilities will include:

  • Management of the ACCORD Clinical Trial Accounting system, including understanding the interfaces with other Finance systems (including SAP, FinD)
    • Responsible for overall management of ACCORD system & the ACCORD helpdesk email inbox
    • Work with ACCORD technical support team to solve issues within the systems portfolio & lead change projects
    • Provide guidance & support to customers requiring changes in the system, including involvement in writing User Requirements Specifications & User Acceptance Testing (UAT) 
  • Liaison with Clinical Finance Team & Global Finance Operations transactional finance team, including review & challenge of complex month end journals and processes
  • Ensure the effectiveness of FCF (Financial Controls Framework) controls in Clinical Finance
  • To identify & implement opportunities for continuous improvement of working practices & processes across all areas of responsibility.  This will include development required to improve how ACCORD deals with changes to ROX & integration of new types of studies into the system
  • Produce financial management information for key finance & business customers & external auditors
  • Deliver ad hoc projects & reporting in support of Clinical Finance Business Partners, Finance Managers & the Performance, Strategy & Reporting group
  • Participation in the reporting structure reorganization. Including process automation tasks.

Education, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Strong Excel skills
  • Experience of using multiple finance systems
  • Experience of accounting &/or controlling activities including:
    • month end close
    • reconciliations & variance analysis
    • financial controls & SOX controls
  • Experience of working with colleagues inside & outside of finance
  • Exceptional communication & interpersonal skills, including oral & written English

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a global organisation
  • Experience with power pivot and power query
