Introduction to role
We are looking for an experienced Scientist to join Analytical Operations within Analytical Sciences, Cell Therapy Development and Operations. This position is focused on the development and optimization of the genomic assay testing function to support process and product characterization of engineered cell therapy.
The Scientist will work with Analytical Development, Process Development, and Quality Control to deliver quality data by maintaining continuous operations of genomic assay testing functions. You will have expertise in genomic assays, particularly those relevant to DNA extraction, digital PCR, qPCR, and RNP activity. This role is on-site in Santa Monica, CA and reports to a Senior Scientist within Analytical Sciences.
Accountabilities
Lead the development of operational processes & continuous improvement of the genomic function within Analytical Operations.
Manage critical reagent inventory, assay control material, and general consumables to maintain team’s capabilities to execute genomic assays.
Perform genomic assays including, but not limited to, DNA/RNA extraction, digital PCR, qPCR, and RNP activity assays.
Maintain sample identity from sample source to molecular derivatives and its associated results.
Coordinate to produce assay control materials with Process Engineers or External Suppliers and characterize material in a timely manner to support routine testing.
Lead in the method transfer of genomic assays into the Analytical Operations team by assessing incoming test methods, critical reagents, and training schedule.
Collaborate with method & automation developers to optimize methods for high throughput testing and streamline documentation & analysis.
Maintain records of executed methods and reported results for samples and assay control material.
Monitor assay trending and collaborate with method developers to troubleshoot analytical assays.
Expand laboratory and operational skills to support department needs
Provide technical mentorship ensuring scientific rigor and operational excellence in the lab.
Maintain laboratory instruments, ensuring calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting are performed.
Essential Skills/Experience
Three (3) years with BS/BA, or two (2) years with MS/MA in immunology, Cell Biology, Oncology, Molecular Biology, or a related discipline with experience in a biotechnology, biopharmaceutical, or academic setting.
Strong expertise in genomic assays, especially those pertaining to human sample derivatives, digital PCR, and qPCR.
Hands-on experience with media preparations and suspension/adherent culture work: thaw, culture, expand, and cryopreserve
Proficiency in immune cell culture, including primary T cells or engineered immune cells.
Proficiency in data analysis and troubleshooting of genomic analytical assays
Proficient knowledge of general cell therapy processes and understanding of sampling and testing points for characterization to support process development
Experience in flow cytometry, immunoassay, or cell-based assays is a plus
Ability to clearly convey scientific findings and development rationale.
Desirable Skills/Experience
Working knowledge of protein purification technologies and common analytical methods (e.g., SEC-UPLC, LC-MS, SDS-PAGE, CE).
Familiarity with lab automation scheduling software; Green Button Go preferred.
Basic scripting for data handling (e.g., Python, Jupyter) is a plus, not required.
Exposure to imaging or flow cytometry platforms and analysis tools (iQue, Attune, FlowJo) is beneficial for specific assays but not central to the role.
