Senior Manager, R&D Finance – Data and Systems
Role Profile
The Senior Manager, R&D Finance - Data & Systems lead will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, consistency, and integrity of R&D financial information across key systems. The initial and near‑term priority for this role is to support the successful launch and adoption of financial planning in PLANIT within the R&D organization ensuring data is accurately reflected in the system and feeds correctly to Anaplan.
Beyond PLANIT, this role will drive standardization and alignment of financial processes and reporting between Alexion and legacy AstraZeneca R&D Finance teams. The scope will expand to other R&D Finance systems such as ABACUS, Axial, and related tools as they progress on the Finance roadmap for Alexion.
You will work closely with FP&A, Finance Master Data owners, RDU Finance partners, and cross‑functional stakeholders to implement best practices, enhance system capabilities, and create more automated, scalable reporting solutions.
Responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the rollout of financial information in PLANIT including testing, data mapping, highlighting of discrepancies, remediation of issues, development and testing of use cases
- Development of training materials and/or SOPs as needed
- Preparation for ready state scenario where we leverage PLANIT for key Finance deliverables such as LTP & MTP
- Partnering closely with the R&D Finance Projects Lead role to support the alignment of the R&D reporting especially as it relates to PLANIT information. Support the standardization and automation of reports, aligned with the PowerBI project that is currently in progress.
- Work closely with the Sr. Director of R&D Finance FP&A, and the R&D Finance Projects Lead, on the implementation of the PowerBI solution, influencing consistency with AZ R&D’s PowerBI implementation efforts.
- Support the R&D Finance Projects Lead on all future Finance systems implementations

Essential Criteria
- 5-10 years experience in Finance
- Experience in Pharmaceutical/Biotechnology industry
- Interpersonal skills with ability to work with others as well as independently
- Strong competences in accounting
- Good Computer skill (MS Excel, Power Point, SAP)
- Knowledge of a financial planning systems (BPC, Hyperion, COGNOS, Anaplan, PlanIT)
- Fluency in English both written and oral mandatory
- The duties of this role are generally conducted in an office environment. Other Role Requirements
- Schedule flexibility to work on holidays when necessary.
- Flexibility and Ability to travel and work in another AZ facilities outside the country when necessary.
- Schedule flexibility to work on the days off given by the wellness Policy when necessary (Política de Bienestar).
