We are now seeking a Content Specialist, Medical Communications & Information – Oncology to join our Global Business Services (GBS) Medical Delivery / Scientific Communications ecosystem in Lisbon.
This is an exciting opportunity to work in a high-impact, global role where you will contribute to the delivery of scientific content at scale—supporting better healthcare decisions and improving patient outcomes.
The Role
As a Content Specialist, you will play a central role in driving operational excellence across the end-to-end medical content lifecycle, ensuring high-quality, compliant, and efficient delivery of scientific communications.
You will collaborate closely with Medical Information teams, digital teams, Veeva, graphics, and platform partners to coordinate content development and delivery across multiple channels. This role combines content operations, delivery coordination, and process optimisation, enabling consistent execution across global and local teams.
You will have the opportunity to influence how scientific content is planned, developed, and delivered—helping to build a best-in-class medical communications model within AstraZeneca.
Key Accountabilities
Operational Excellence & Delivery
- Drive best-in-class operational practices across planning, governance, processes, platforms, and performance tracking
- Support the delivery of high-quality, compliant scientific content across multiple channels
End-to-End Content Lifecycle Coordination
- Coordinate the end-to-end delivery lifecycle, from planning through review, approval, publishing, and performance tracking
- Ensure delivery is predictable, efficient, and aligned to business priorities
Portfolio Tracking & Visibility
- Track content progression across oncology portfolios or disease areas
- Provide visibility on timelines, dependencies, risks, and delivery status
Governance & Risk Management
- Support reporting, issue tracking, and partner concern processes
- Contribute to risk mitigation planning to protect delivery commitments
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner closely with:
- Medical Information and Communications teams
- Digital and platform teams
- Veeva and content management partners
- Graphics and creative teams
- Enable consistent and seamless execution across a complex organisation
Platform Operations
- Support content delivery across key platforms, including:
- CLM (Closed Loop Marketing)
- AZ Medical platforms
- Medical Information portals
- Other digital content channels
Process Improvement & Innovation
- Maintain and improve processes, playbooks, and guidance for scientific communications delivery
- Contribute to continuous improvement and digital transformation initiatives
Business Planning & Enablement
- Support planning and execution of scientific communication priorities
- Enable global-to-local delivery models and adoption across markets
- Support onboarding through structured documentation and training materials
Performance & Insights
- Contribute to critical metric, goals and milestones, and performance tracking
- Support dashboard reporting and insights generation to improve decision-making
Essential Skills & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Pharmacy, Medical field, or equivalent experience
Strong background in:
- Scientific communications
- Medical content operations
- Delivery coordination or complex project environments
Experience in:
- Working in regulated environments (medical/scientific/compliance-led workflows)
- Managing multi-stakeholder workflows with multiple approvals and dependencies
- Using enterprise content platforms (e.g. CLM, medical portals, CMS tools)
- Delivery tracking, governance, and reporting within matrix organisations
Strong understanding of:
- Medical content governance and compliance standards
- Scientific communication processes
Proven ability to:
- Work with global, regional, and local partners
- Analyse data and extract actionable insights
- Manage multiple priorities in parallel
Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal
Highly organised with strong attention to detail
Ability to work autonomously and lead without authority
Comfortable in fast-paced, evolving, and ambiguous environments
Desirable Skills & Experience
Experience in Global Business Services (GBS) or shared services environments
Exposure to pharmaceutical, biotech, or healthcare sectors
Familiarity with tools such as:
- ServiceNow
- Jira
- Confluence
- Power BI
Knowledge of project or programme management methodologies (Agile, Lean, etc.)
Experience supporting:
- Process improvement initiatives
- Digital transformation
- Operating model enhancements
