Manufacturing Engineer – Aseptic Filling

Lieu Nijmegen, Gelderland, Netherlands Job ID R-255715 Date de publication 07/02/2026

Bring your aseptic manufacturing experience to a role where you can improve processes, influence daily operations and help build consistency in a fast-moving environment. At AstraZeneca Nijmegen, you will be close to the action and central to meaningful improvement.

Manufacturing Engineer – Aseptic Filling

Nijmegen, full time

This is a diverse role for someone who wants to make a visible difference in manufacturing. As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will play a key part in improving and strengthening our (aseptic) filling processes, helping to ensure they are reliable, efficient and ready to support future growth.

You are an experienced professional who combines technical understanding within a practical floor-based approach. You enjoy working close to the process, identifying opportunities for improvement and collaborating with others to turn those opportunities into lasting results. In this role, you will not only help maintain high standards, but also contribute to creating more stability, structure and confidence within a changing environment.

The role

This position offers the chance to take ownership of process performance within a complex and highly regulated manufacturing setting. Your main focus will be on process implementation, process optimisation and continuous improvements in aseptic vial filling.

You will be joining a team that values development and collaboration, while also recognising the importance of experience in a period of change. For that reason, we are looking for someone who can bring a strong foundation, sound judgment and the ability to support both the process and the people around it.

What you will do

  • Lead and support process improvements within aseptic filling, helping the organisation improve efficiency, consistency and operational performance.

  • Drive implementation of our new or updated manufacturing processes, including support for equipment, process changes and new fill line introduction.

  • Act as a process owner for part of the manufacturing operation, using your knowledge of aseptic vial filling to identify, analyse and address process inefficiencies.

  • Work closely on the production floor, observing how processes perform in practice and translating those insights into targeted improvements.

  • Review batch-related documentation and manufacturing records, ensuring a strong operational foundation and smooth execution.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders including Manufacturing, Quality, MS&T and Supply Chain to deliver practical and sustainable solutions.

  • Coach and support colleagues during process improvements and implementation activities, helping to strengthen capability across the wider team.

This is a varied role in a dynamic manufacturing environment. While there is structure in the week, flexibility is essential. Priorities can shift, unexpected issues can arise and no two weeks are the same. Around 60-70% of the role is focused on implementation, optimisation and improvement activities. The remaining part covers the core GMP responsibilities that keep the operation running effectively, such as documentation, batch record review, deviations and change controls. Those elements are important, but the real emphasis is on bringing the right experience to improve the process itself.

What we are looking for

We are looking for a candidate who brings relevant experience from a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment and is ready to apply that experience in a hands-on, improvement-focused role.

  • Experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing

  • Strong knowledge of aseptic processing, ideally within aseptic vial filling

  • Experience in process implementation, optimisation and continuous improvement

  • A solid understanding of GMP and the quality expectations of a regulated environment

  • The ability to assess issues, prioritise effectively and respond well in a changing operational setting

  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to work across teams and disciplines

  • An analytical mindset, with the ability to translate observations into practical improvements

  • Good written and spoken English; Dutch is preferred, but we are open to candidates with strong English and the right experience

In addition, you are:

  • Calm and resilient in a fast-paced environment

  • Comfortable managing multiple priorities at the same time

  • A strong communicator with excellent stakeholder management skills

  • Analytical and solution-oriented

  • Practical and visible on the workfloor

Your working days are Monday - Friday with no regular shift work.

The role does include participation in an on-call rotation, currently approximately one week in every four, during which you are available between 07:00 and 22:00. An allowance is provided, with additional compensation if you are called in outside of office hours.
