The Director, US Media Relations will join AstraZeneca’s US Media function and be a spokesperson for one of the fastest growing, innovativepharmaceutical companies in the US. As part of the media team, youwill be responsible for developing and executingstrategies to generate coverage in leading national and state media to shape reputation and amplify the Company’s profile in the US. The role will be responsible for issues management as well asdeveloping creative story ideas to get cut through and landpositive media coverage in a challenging US media environment. In addition, you will be expected to work with internal and external stakeholders to increase success.
What you'll do
Spokesperson for the company on key company topics, news flow, and issues, while proactively pitching media and responding to incoming media requests.
Developing and implementing proactive and reactive media relations strategies that support AstraZeneca’s objectives and mission.
Building relationships with key business and trade media contacts to help secure positive coverage for the company across broadcast, print and digital.
Craft communications materials including communications plans, fact sheets, statements, press releases and briefing materials for senior leaders
Coordinating interviews with executives and other key personnel
Monitoring and analyzing media coverage of the company to identify trends and potential issues.
Advising executives and other internal partners on messaging and media relations strategies.
Collaborate with colleagues across US and Global Corporate Affairs like External Communications, Government Affairs and Policy on media activities
Supervise agency partners to drive tactical execution of media strategies, ensuring that metrics are reached
Essential for the role
5+ years of relevant work experience in media or communications
Bachelors degree
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Hands-on experience in managing proactive/reactive media relations programs
Experience working with senior leaders and supporting media interviews and visibility in other executive external engagements.
Skilled at managing cross-functional partner relations in a fast-paced environment
Ability to work on both strategy and execution
Desirable for the role
Experience working in life sciences, pharmaceutical, or healthcare industries
An understanding of the drug development process and strong scientific background
Experience working in a highly matrixed organization
News hungry and tenacious with a strong network of reporter contacts

The annual base pay (or hourly rate of compensation) for this position ranges from $141,683.20 - 212,524.80 USD as an annual base salary. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles), to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles), and commission payment eligibility (sales roles). Benefits offered included a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and, health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans. Additional details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
