This immersive 6-month program offers mentorship, technical training, and exposure to industry-leading innovation in in-vitro therapeutic protein development.

What You Will Do
As a Co-op Scientist, you will support the development of Alexion’s therapeutic protein candidates by learning and applying principles of biologics downstream process development. You will gain experience in one or more of the following areas: chromatography, robotics and automation, and analytical support.

This role is based in a laboratory environment. As is typical of lab-based roles, successful candidates must be able—with or without accommodation—to work comfortably in a lab setting, including bending, standing, working with small parts, reaching, and kneeling.

You Will Be Responsible For:
•    Conducting literature searches to understand current developments related to your project
•    Training on relevant equipment and systems
•    Delivering experimental studies, with mentorship, to optimize processes or develop tools for downstream process development
•    Collaborating with the Downstream Process Development team and cross-functional partners to meet study objectives
•    Documenting study execution and results in lab notebooks, presentations, and technical reports
•    Presenting findings to relevant business units

You Will Need To Have:
•    BS or MS degree in Biology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related subject area from an accredited university in good academic standing, and have secured institutional approval for participation in a CO-OP program
•    0–2 years of experience working in a relevant laboratory setting
•    Availability to work full-time on-site for approximately 6 months (January to June)
•    Proven track record to quickly learn and apply new scientific techniques, with examples of problem-solving in academic or research settings
•    Proven interpersonal and communication skills, with experience collaborating effectively in team environments (e.g., lab groups, academic projects, or internships)

We Would Prefer You Have:
•    Experience with design of experiments and statistical software packages (e.g., JMP)
•    Exposure to data-driven/machine learning, hybrid, or mechanistic modeling of bio separations
•    Hands-on experience with protein purification, Tecan or other robotic pipetting instruments, and experimental design
•    Proficiency in MS Office: Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
•    Basic lab skills (e.g., pipetting, weighing components, pH/conductivity measurements)
