Asset Performance Management (APM) Engineer
The AstraZeneca Mt. Vernon site was established in 1972 and is the flagship site delivering innovative, life changing oral solid medicines. At the site we formulate and pack OSD tablets and capsules for over 60+ markets. The Mt Vernon site is complex, the largest AZ production site in the US with over 700+ employees. We are located in the southwest corner of the state of Indiana, approximately 15 miles from Evansville, Indiana – the third largest city in the state. The Mt. Are you ready to lead the charge in optimizing asset performance and driving equipment reliability? As an Asset Performance Management (APM) Engineer, you'll be at the heart of transforming our site into a hub of data-driven maintenance excellence. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you'll leverage cutting-edge technologies and methodologies to enhance asset lifecycle management and support manufacturing operations. Reporting to the Reliability & TPM Director, your expertise will be pivotal in interpreting KPIs, facilitating reliability initiatives, and integrating advanced maintenance strategies.
Accountabilities:
- Serve as a technical lead for reliability methodologies, asset lifecycle management, early equipment management, and condition-based monitoring, partnering with the Reliability & TPM Director to implement and enhance work processes and standards.
- Monitor and analyze equipment performance and reliability data and KPIs from SAP and downtime tracking tools to identify trends and recommend improvements.
- Develop and deliver leadership reporting and insights by tracking asset performance and reliability KPIs, analyzing data to identify issues or improvement opportunities, and supporting cross-area benchmarking.
- Act as a change champion for TPM, reliability, and prescriptive maintenance initiatives by promoting new practices and engaging stakeholders across teams.
- Champion the integration of Prescriptive Maintenance by working with digital, maintenance, and operations teams to implement advanced, data-driven approaches. This includes leveraging real-time and historical equipment data, advanced analytics, AI, and machine learning to predict potential failures and prescribe the most effective corrective actions, making proactive asset management a core site capability.
- Lead or facilitate cross-functional investigations and workshops (e.g., root cause analysis, FMEA, equipment criticality assessments) to solve equipment issues and drive reliability initiatives.
- Champion Early Equipment Management (EEM) for new projects and major upgrades by ensuring reliability and maintainability are considered in equipment selection, design, and installation, and by engaging operators and maintenance teams for input throughout the process.
- Scout and pilot new reliability and maintenance technologies in partnership with digital, LEAN, and maintenance teams to support continuous improvement and innovation.
- Collaborate with TPM facilitators, maintenance, and operations teams to execute criticality analyses, breakdown studies, and reliability projects in line with TPM principles.
- Help develop and optimize preventive and predictive maintenance programs, targeting chronic failures (“bad actors”) through systematic data analysis.
- Support the adoption and effective use of digital tools for asset health monitoring, working closely with Lean digital teams to advance autonomous manufacturing.
- Contribute to spare parts inventory decisions, using data and risk assessments to optimize stock levels and support plant reliability goals.
- Assist in drafting and deploying site reliability procedures, standards, and training materials, helping to upskill operations and maintenance personnel.
- Present findings and recommendations to site leadership, ensuring alignment and support for reliability and performance improvement efforts.
- Ensure compliance with internal/external standards and support audits related to asset management.
Essential Skills/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering
- 0 to 3 years of relevant experience
- Manufacturing environment experience preferably in regulated industries
- Strong analytical and data interpretation skills
- Experience leading technical workshops and reliability investigations
- Solid understanding of maintenance processes
- Effective communicator and influencer in cross-functional teams
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks
- Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making capability
- Must have demonstrated ability to plan, implement, and achieve significant, complex goals and objectives
Desirable Skills/Experience:
- Advanced degree or certification in reliability (e.g., CMRP, CRE)
- Training or certification in data-related topics
- Experience with SAP, data historians, and predictive/prescriptive maintenance tools
- Certification or training in data analytics
- Experience with Total Productive Maintenance and/or Reliability
- Familiarity with spare parts inventory management
