This is a 100% on-site role based in our lab in Hamilton, Ontario.
About the Opportunity
Are you ready to make a significant impact in the field of cancer research? We are looking for a dynamic and independent Senior Scientist with a passion for radiopharmaceutical development to join our radioconjugate portfolio team in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. This role requires a proven track record of scientific excellence and project leadership experience.
As a Senior Scientist, you will be the tumor biology technical lead for emerging radioconjugate programs, collaborating with internal teams and external partners to advance novel targeted alpha therapies. This laboratory-based position involves study design, hands-on execution, data analysis, interpretation, and cross-functional communication. You will lead preclinical pharmacology studies and support in vivo evaluations, generating decision-ready data packages to drive preclinical development forward.
Accountabilities
Serve as an independent technical lead for radioconjugate programs, collaborating with cross-functional teams and external partners to generate critical program data for project milestone decisions.
Stay up-to-date with technical, intellectual, and scientific expertise in tumor biology and cancer modeling, particularly related to targeted radioconjugates.
Lead preclinical pharmacology studies, including radioligand binding, internalization, and retention assays.
Support in vivo biodistribution, imaging, and efficacy evaluations.
Plan and conduct in vitro studies and support in vivo studies to generate decision-ready data packages.
Analyze and present results to core project teams, prepare materials for governance interactions, and deliver program updates across internal forums.
Essentials Skills and Experience
PhD Degree with 3+ years of experience, Master’s Degree with 5+ years of experience, or a Bachelor’s Degree with 7+ years and project leadership experience in a relevant discipline related to tumor and radiation biology
Demonstrates a strong knowledge of cancer/cell biology, radiation biology, and/or biochemistry in the context of cancer, with a robust desire for continued learning
Expertise in routine cell culture, particularly culture of tumor cells Expertise in molecular- and cell-based methodologies, such as cloning/gene editing, cytotoxicity assays, binding and internalization assays, flow cytometry, ELISA, and Western blotting
Works independently with minimal supervision to conduct experiments, analyze data, and prepare results for internal and external presentations and regulatory filings
Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills evidenced by a history of successful project delivery in team-oriented, collaborative environments
A proven track record of productivity, as demonstrated by scientific publications in high quality peer-reviewed journals
Ensures own work, and work of peers, is compliant with Good Laboratory Practice, Safety, Health, and Environment standards and all other relevant internal AstraZeneca standards and external regulations
Desirable Skills and Experience
Demonstrated proficiency in targeted radiopharmaceutical therapies and/or imaging, and a broad, up-to-date understanding of the field is highly preferred
Prior experience in the biopharmaceutical industry and familiarity managing data delivery through contract research organizations preferred
Demonstrated ability to coordinate project activities and provide scientific mentorship to junior scientists is highly preferred
Direct, hands-on experience in residualization & saturation binding assays, radioimaging (PET or SPECT), biodistribution studies, non-clinical dosimetry, and other pre-clinical radiopharmaceutical methods is highly desirable
Experience with targeted alpha emitter therapeutics is an asset
