The Patient Experience Team (PEX) team fuels Alexion AstraZeneca Rare Disease’s corporate priorities by ensuring the patient voice guides every stage of our work. We integrate insights to strengthen R&D programs and influence launches, enable local markets to accelerate access and awareness, and leverage community alliances to embed their voice across the healthcare system.

Reporting to the Head of Global Patient Insights & Solutions (GPIS), the PATHS Strategic Partner shapes and drives the generation and integration of rare disease patient insights to inform disease strategy from drug development through commercialization. It connects perspectives across HCPs, payers, regulators, and patients to drive rare disease patient access to medicines.

This role is responsible for identifying ways to elevate the patient voice across access pathways, third‑party advocacy, and ecosystem stakeholder influence, directly supporting geographic expansion. The PATHS Strategic Partner will apply and tailor the PATHS (Patient Accelerated Transformative Healthcare Systems) framework and will design new tools aligned with internal stakeholder needs. They will cross-fertilize learnings across countries, market archetypes, and disease areas.

In this role you will enhance Alexion’s commitment and demonstration of patient centricity. Through shaping and driving internal understanding of the patient perspective, this individual will impact Alexion Astra Zeneca Rare Disease strategic decision making.

While part of the Global Medical Affairs (GMA) team, this role collaborates closely with adjacent functions—including Global and Country Corporate Affairs, Patient Advocacy, Regulatory, Medical Affairs, Marketing and Market Access.

You will be responsible for:

Patient Insight Generation and Conversion to Action

  • Sets priorities and objectives on patient voice amplification to drive patient access in key markets and disease areas.
  • Serve as enterprise owner and steward of the PATHS framework, producing and scaling foundational patient insights and systematically cross‑fertilizing best practices across market archetypes and indications.
  • Strategically lead cross‑functional efforts across global and country teams to amplify the patient voice to advance rare‑disease policy and access and to consistently translating impact.

Amplification and Communication

  • Elevate the patient voice cross-functionally, ensuring insights inform enterprise strategies across the access pathway.
  • Develop and implement innovative AI‑enabled and experiential approaches to communicate and roll-out patient insights globally.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to global and country leadership teams on leveraging the patient voice to shape portfolio and access strategy.
  • Measure and communicate impact with qualitative and quantitative metrics to inform investment and prioritization decisions.

Collaboration and Matrix Leadership

  • Drive alignment across global, regional, and local teams to ensure unified patient‑insight strategy execution by being an active member and contributor to global cross-functional teams (i.e., launch, value, strategic planning teams, etc.).
  • Foster a patient-first culture, ensuring systematic patient insight representation at major internal forums (e.g., Brand Forums, Disease Strategic Planning) to keep the organization connected to our purpose.
  • Collaborate closely within Patient Experience to connect external patient perspectives with internal business priorities.
  • Limited domestic and international travel (10-15%)

You will need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree: degree in data science or management preferred. 
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in the Biotech/Pharmaceutical Industry or equivalent.
  • Experience developing innovative solutions to address critical business challenges, with the ability to adapt quickly to disease‑area and team needs.
  • Drive change by transforming traditional data‑use practices into leading‑edge, modern approaches working in partnership with colleagues.
  • Demonstrated passion for patient and caregiver focused work.
  • Proven capability to operate independently with accountability for influencing senior leadership decisions across Global Medical Affairs and the broader enterprise.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Teams.
  • The duties of this role are generally conducted in an office environment.  As is typical of an office-based role, employees must be able, with or without an accommodation to: use a computer; engage in communications via phone, video, and electronic messaging; engage in problem solving and non-linear thought, analysis, and dialogue; collaborate with others; maintain general availability during standard business hours. 

We would prefer for you to have:

  • Advanced degree a plus (e.g., MPH, MD, RN, MBA, etc.) 
  • Experience in Rare Disease
  • Market Access, Policy experience
  • Knowledge of healthcare systems in multiple countries
  • Expertise in AI

Annual base salary for this position ranges from 0.00 to 0.00.

Our compensation policies and practices have been designed to allow colleagues to progress through the salary range over time as they progress in their role. The range provided in this posting represents an offer pay range used in a majority of situations. The base pay offered will vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including the candidate's skills and experience, job-related knowledge, and other specific business and organizational needs.  In some cases, offers outside the range may also be considered to address unique circumstances.

In addition, our permanent positions offer an annual Variable Pay Bonus/Short Term Incentive opportunity as well as eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (if applicable to role).  Benefits offered for permanent roles include a competitive Flex Benefits & Retirement Savings Program, 4 weeks’ paid vacation, and annual Personal Days. Fixed Term Contract/Temporary positions (excluding students) are offered a Contract Benefits Program.
