Summary of Position:
Are you passionate about data and excited by the challenge of transforming data sources into exceptional Business Intelligence? We're seeking a problem solver to enhance our Information Management capabilities. If you're ready to tackle the complexities of data management and optimization, this role is perfect for you. You will be responsible for data discovery, integrating new data, managing changes to existing sources, and architecting solutions to optimize data delivery for our Insights & Analytics and Data Science teams.
As a Data Engineering Specialist, you will oversee the enterprise data architecture for AstraZeneca Canada. You will define and govern data standards, streamline data architecture, and contribute to data solution design and integration across local and global projects. Serving as the data architecture Subject Matter Expert for the Canadian Enterprise Analytics platform, you will drive new data modeling into the Data Warehouse and collaborate on creating a semantic layer to support reporting and analytics. With your comprehensive knowledge of data, data models, and BI architecture, you will resolve data issues and assist business users with data inquiries.
What You’ll Do:
- Serve as an internal consultant on data architecture throughout the project development life cycle.
- Lead data discovery and analysis to support the data science team.
- Provide leadership in data engineering for Canadian IM projects, including ETL design and data integration.
- Conduct data analysis and resolve data issues by identifying and addressing root causes.
- Implement process improvements by automating tasks, optimizing data delivery, and enhancing infrastructure scalability.
- Collaborate globally and locally on integration design and map data into target models.
- Support data integration, reporting, and analytics by designing optimal data delivery.
- Assist users with data and data model inquiries.
- Design the semantic layer and architecture of BI tools like Power BI for reporting solutions.
- Help implement BI reports and dashboards.
- Define and enforce data architecture best practices and maintain related policies and standards.
- Maintain diagrams for relational systems and dimensional models for Data Warehouses and Data Marts.
- Review architecture designs from third parties.
- Lead or support projects for requirements gathering and solution architecture.
- Manage Power Apps and Power Automate processes for scheduling and data integration.
- Act as IT owner for specific applications, addressing business issues with global teams.
What We’re Looking For:
- Over 4 years of practical experience in Information Management, specializing in Data Analysis, Integration, Modeling, ETL/ELT, and BI architecture.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Information Technology, or Engineering.
- Proficient in data analysis and profiling.
- Skilled in writing advanced SQL queries for data exploration, analysis, and reporting.
- Capable of defining and optimizing ETL specifications.
- Experienced with AWS technologies, including RedShift, S3, Python, Glue, and PySpark.
- Expertise in developing dimensional data models for reporting and analytics.
- Familiar with data modeling tools.
- Experienced in using Power Apps and Power Automate.
- Strong project management and business analysis skills for requirements gathering and project leadership.
- Excellent communication skills for stakeholder engagement and design discussions.
- Experience with global IT organizations and offshore teams.
- Knowledgeable in enterprise reporting and analytics tools like Power BI.
- Skilled in developing data structures for an Enterprise Data Warehouse on RedShift.
- Familiarity with NoSQL database architecture and REST API processing would be considered an asset.
