Data & AI Solutions Intern - Summer 2026
Role Summary:
The Data & AI Solutions summer student will support the IT team within the Innovation and Business Excellence Department. Responsibilities include three intersecting areas: Generative AI and agentic solutions, data solution support, and project coordination. You will help build and test simple AI agent prototypes, assist with basic data discovery and profiling, and contribute to project documentation and communications. Under guidance from senior team members, you will translate clear requirements into small tasks, follow compliance processes, and provide concise status updates.
Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
Generative AI & Agents
- Agent configuration: Help set up Copilot Studio agents using templates; update prompts, actions, and connectors as directed.
- Prototype and pilot support: Run prompt tests, capture results, and document lessons learned; assist with defining simple user stories and acceptance criteria for AI features.
- Documentation and training materials: Draft internal documentation and training materials (e.g., how-to clips, step-by-step guides, FAQs)
- Enablement: Participate in cross-functional AI upskilling sessions; contribute to job aids and quick-start guides based on playbooks.
Data Solution Support
- Data analysis: Assist with basic data profiling and documentation; investigate straightforward data issues and capture root causes for review.
- SQL and tooling: Write and test simple SQL queries for exploration and validation; support basic dbt model updates and Airflow task changes with guidance.
- Reporting & apps: Build or update simple Power BI visuals and contribute to small Power Apps/Power Automate components using existing patterns.
Solutions & Project Delivery
- Project coordination: Maintain tasks in JIRA/Confluence, prepare meeting notes, and support weekly status communications; track milestones and basic KPIs.
- Requirements support: Assist in gathering business needs and translating them into clear user stories and test cases; help organize demos and feedback.
- Execution assurance: Follow Agile/Hybrid delivery methods; update project artifacts, check dependencies, and confirm readiness for small releases.
What We’re Looking For
- Foundational data skills: Ability to write basic to intermediate SQL; familiarity with data profiling and interpreting schemas.
- Cloud and tooling awareness: Exposure to AWS concepts (S3, Redshift, Athena, Glue, Python/PySpark basics) is an asset; interest in DBT and Airflow.
- BI and automation: Comfort with Power BI fundamentals; interest in Power Apps and Power Automate.
- AI curiosity: Basic understanding of Generative AI and agentic concepts; willingness to learn Copilot Studio and prompt design.
- Project mindset: Organized, attentive to detail, and able to follow structured delivery methods (Agile/Hybrid) with clear documentation.
- Communication: Clear, concise writing for requirements, notes, and status updates; collaborative and receptive to feedback.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s program in Computer Science, Data/Information Systems, Engineering, Math, or related field.
- Coursework or projects demonstrating SQL, data analysis, and introductory programming (Python preferred).
- Familiarity with one or more: AWS basics, DBT, Airflow, Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate, JIRA, Confluence.
- Interest in Generative AI, NLP, and automation; willingness to learn enterprise tools and compliance processes.
- Ability to work in a team, ask clarifying questions, and deliver small tasks on time.
- Candidates must have an expected graduation date after December 2026.
- Available to work full-time for duration of the internship
Desirable Skills/Experience:
- Basic understanding of Agile ceremonies and artifacts.
- Experience drafting user-facing enablement materials (FAQs, job aids).

What to Expect:
This role is a 8-month paid contract position, which starts in May 2026. Our position will be based in our Mississauga head office and allow for flexible working arrangements working both onsite (2-3 times per week) and virtually.

Annual base salary for this position ranges from $41,495.20 to $54,462.45. AstraZeneca is committed to providing fair and equitable compensation opportunities to all colleagues. Our compensation policies and practices have been designed to allow colleagues to progress through the salary range over time as they progress in their role. The range provided in this posting represents an offer pay range used in a majority of situations. The base pay offered will vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including the candidate's skills and experience, job-related knowledge, and other specific business and organizational needs. In some cases, offers outside the range may also be considered to address unique circumstances.
In addition, our permanent positions offer an annual Variable Pay Bonus/Short Term Incentive opportunity as well as eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (if applicable to role). Benefits offered for permanent roles include a competitive Flex Benefits & Retirement Savings Program, 4 weeks’ paid vacation, and annual Personal Days. Fixed Term Contract/Temporary positions (excluding students) are offered a Contract Benefits Program.
