Business Specialist – Oncology Medical Affairs

As a Senior Business Specialist in Oncology Medical Affairs, you'll leverage your advanced expertise in business and financial planning to drive continuous improvement across our US Medical Affairs portfolio. You'll be at the forefront of optimizing processes, collaborating with key partners, and ensuring our teams are equipped for high-impact projects. Operating from our Mississauga, ON campus, you'll report directly to the Director of Finance and Business Planning, working alongside a dynamic team to transform the lives of patients living with cancer.
Accountabilities:
Drive improvement efforts in processes related to Mapping, Accruals, and Rephasing of medical activities and spend.
Collaborate with Procurement Lead and Medical HQ to ensure timely review and closure of outstanding SOWs across the entire USMA portfolio.
Engage with cross-functional stakeholders to identify unmet business needs and lead efforts to create value-added solutions.
Effectively communicate internal and finance-related timelines to key business partners, ensuring preparedness for high-impact projects and deliverables.
Provide regular updates on progress towards spend targets at the total USMA level.
Support and lead all budget activities for Tumour Area Alliances, ensuring alignment and transparency.
Lead special projects and initiatives alongside the Director, Finance and Business Planning as assigned.
Lead quarterly analysis of uncommitted spend, coordinating with Business Specialists, Finance, and Medical cross-functional partners to address variances and optimize resource allocation.
Utilize Data Visualization Reporting Dashboard for financial tracking and reporting; serve as the primary point of contact for Finance Reporting Dashboard feedback and enhancement requests.
Serve as training lead for new hires on the Mississauga-based Medical Affairs team, ensuring they achieve proficiency in key financial processes such as Mapping, Rephasing, Accruals, and budget management.
Guide and mentor Business Specialists, supporting their development as trusted partners for all finance-related activities.
Provide mentorship and support to the local team, fostering an environment of continuous improvement and learning.
Essential Skills/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree (B.S. or B.A.), with a preferred focus in business
Demonstrated experience in budgeting, financial planning, and accounting
Experience in contract management preferred
Advanced proficiency in project management tools and processes
Ability to effectively operate in a complex matrix environment, engaging multiple stakeholder groups towards shared goals
Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts to various audiences
Desirable Skills/Experience:
Minimum 12–18 months in a Business Specialist role with evidence of mastering key responsibilities
Successfully completed projects or responsibilities beyond role expectations
Experience with Coupa, SAP, and/or Anaplan
Pharmaceutical industry exposure, with relevant experience in Medical Affairs and/or Oncology
Ability to leverage data visualization and reporting tools for financial analysis and decision support
