Associate Director, Medical Communications and Information
The Associate Director, Medical Communications & Information, is accountable for the execution of US & Global MC&I brand/therapeutic area deliverables, including responding to medical inquiries from healthcare professionals, reviewing/providing scientific consult to promotional materials, and development of scientific content for internal and external stakeholders. The area of focus and level of involvement across specific activities is determined based on the active needs of the therapeutic area team.
This position is part of the Content Excellence Team within MC&I, and reports directly to an MC&I Director within the respective TA team. In collaboration with their Director, they also play a critical role in supervising and supporting Medical Information Managers within their team.
The Associate Director, will be expected to deliver on an existing pipeline of work, leveraging new operating efficiencies and resources to support prioritisation and capacity management:
This role will be expected to:
Demonstrate scientific and business expertise relevant to therapeutic areas, including knowledge about existing assets and pipeline
Stay abreast with the latest changes and trends in the therapeutic area landscape, including regulatory and compliance, to understand and respond to medical inquiries
Ensure that the medical content developed aligns with MC&I priorities and the overall medical strategy
Lead on US launch and congress deliverables with oversight of Director(s)
Collaborate with key collaborators, including Medical Affairs and other partner functions
Provide staffing support for the MC&I booth at scientific meetings
Own the deliverables within your focus area, ensuring quality of content delivered through MIMs
Assist MC&I Directors with leading and planning tactical execution of content strategy plan
Accountable for development and maintenance of content plans with integration into iMAP
Typical Accountabilities
Scientific Content/Brand Support
Own all deliverables assigned within their focus area/ TA team, ensuring quality of content is in alignment with overall medical strategic vision and MC&I priorities. This includes:
Contributing to and/or leading development, review, and maintenance of all content, including Managed Market documents, slide decks, standard response documents, Q&As, infographics, chatbot conversations, and interactive core medical content
Leverage scientific communication skills to communicate insights through curation of medical content to engage HCPs
Accountable for MC&I contribution to Promotional Review (US market only) by: Providing strategic scientific consults on brand messages
Reviewing promotional materials for content and accuracy
Contributing to the prioritization of review for promotional materials
Coordinating development, review, and approval of clinical Data on File Packets to support promotional claims
Coordination, creation, and/or review of submissions to external Drug Information Resources and Evidence-Based Practice Centres
Lead the compendia submission process for Medical Affairs
Consult to Regulatory/Labelling committee and the publications team on brand publications
Internal Stakeholder Management
Responsible for directly managing and delivering on the GMA/USMA team needs
Regularly communicate the content plans, updates and report the TA results of KPIs and metrics
Team Supervision and Support
Supervise and delegate tasks to MI managers, providing guidance and support as needed
Address challenges in execution of deliverables and raise issues to Directors in a timely manner, if required
Oversee day-to-day operations ensuring efficiency and effectiveness of team
Assist with orienting new team members and facilitating their integration into the team
Support evaluation of team performance by regularly monitoring performance metrics and reporting insights to Directors
Essential for the role
Advanced degree in Pharmacy (PharmD preferred), Pharmacology, Science, or equivalent clinical experience
2-4 years of experience in pharmaceutical industry-based Drug/Medical Information/Scientific Communications or equivalent proven experience
Demonstrated expertise in drug information communication and management
Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
Ability to apply local regulatory (e.g. FDA), legal, and compliance requirements to Medical Affairs activities and drug information delivery
Understanding of the information needs for various customer segments
