This full-time maximum term (24 months) contract position is located in Macquarie Park, Sydney and the base salary range is AUD 71,000 – AUD 88,000 per annum.

What you’ll do

As a Microbiologist based at our Sydney manufacturing site, you'll play a vital role in ensuring the quality and safety of our products. You'll be responsible for carrying out microbiological quality control testing on raw materials, water, bulk, and finished products, as well as monitoring the microbiological environment and personnel. Your work will ensure compliance with specifications and regulatory requirements, ultimately contributing to the health and well-being of patients worldwide.

Technical responsibilities:

  • Prepare media, perform growth promotion testing and ensure that media is available for testing.

  • Conduct Quality Control microbiological tests using current validated methods.

  • Conduct viable and non viable environmental monitoring.

  • Perform microbiological identification.

  • Ensure Laboratory equipment is maintained, calibrated and validated.

  • Effectively manage laboratory consumables.

  • Ensure Gowning validation, revalidation and access to Micro Sterile, Nova Sterile and Grade C areas of factory are maintained if required,

  • Record and report all analysis in a manner consistent with GLP/GMP.

  • Author/Review documents (i.e. SOPs, WI etc) with appropriate clarity and completeness.

Operations:

  • Ensure Change Controls are appropriately generated and authorised within agreed timelines.

  • Ensure training records are complete, correct and up to date.

  • Ensure Deviations and OOS’s are reported and investigated in a timely manner.

  • Facilitate effective CAPA implementation.

  • Provide advice on Microbiological quality related matters to cross functional departments.

  • Schedule adherence for Microbiological sampling, sample receipt and testing, test result review, Deviation initiation and completion, Change Control initiation and closure, OOS investigation and reporting, Special Projects, ECMS and training requirements.

Essential for the role

  • Tertiary qualification in Science, majoring in Microbiology or a related scientific discipline

  • Scientific background relevant to microbiology and pharmaceutical laboratory work

  • Knowledge and experience with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice)

  • Knowledge and understanding of microbiological testing and analysis

  • Proficient in written and spoken English, with technical report writing capability.

  • Computer literate, with experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

Desirable for the role

  • Knowledge and understanding of the principles and concepts of compliance management and Good Manufacturing Practice/Good Laboratory Practice

  • Knowledge and understanding of Safety, Health and Environment

  • Competent in problem-solving and microbiological risk analysis

  • Highly proficient in time management and administrative tasks
