What you'll do
The Oncology Legal team manages AZ’s Oncology-related commercial and R&D legal risks for global teams and serves as the legal team for AstraZeneca’s US Oncology business. This dual role supporting our US business and global teams allows for US lawyers to gain global experience.
Responsible for all Oncology-related litigation (including commercial, product liability, and IP litigation) and government investigations.
Advise global teams on key legal risks and opportunities across the discovery, development, and commercialization of our life-changing medicines. This broad remit enables us to work in new and developing areas of law, medicine, and business
Influence business decisions with legal advice and analysis. Strategic thinking and influencing skills are key as the position has a direct impact on business activities and key legal matters with significant reputational or financial value and risk.
Be a proactive business partner with an understanding of internal and external trends
Articulate legal considerations to senior stakeholders clearly and concisely in a dynamic environment
Essential for the role:
JD and admission to the bar of at least one state
5+ years of legal experience specifically in litigation
Ability to take accountability, appropriately calibrate risk and make decisions with confidence and professional maturity
Practical and pragmatic approach
Intellectually curious, appetite for learning with a proven ability to master new subjects quickly and effectively
Resilient and able to operate effectively and independently under pressure
Ability to work flexibly and collaboratively
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
Demonstrated experience managing accountabilities and stakeholders
High level of integrity and strong work ethic
Desirable for the role:
Strong working knowledge of the pharmaceutical/life sciences industry including the discovery, development, and commercialization life-cycle
Law firm and/or in-house experience with patent litigation, commercial litigation, and/or government investigations
Familiarity with US drug pricing, reimbursement, payer, and channel landscape, and of the relevant laws governing commercial arrangements in healthcare
Experience providing legal advice to oncology R&D or commercial teams
Experience advising global pharmaceutical/life-sciences organizations regarding R&D or commercial matters
Educational background in Biology or Chemistry

The annual base pay (or hourly rate of compensation) for this position ranges from $179,594.40 - 269,391.60 USD as an annual base salary. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles), to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles), and commission payment eligibility (sales roles). Benefits offered included a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and, health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans. Additional details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
