About Our Gaithersburg Oncology Hub
Our Gaithersburg, Maryland facility creates life-changing medicines for people around the world. This campus employs more than 3,500 experts in our field and is only a short drive from Washington, DC. This modern and vibrant scientific campus is the home of R&D and Oncology in the US. Here, we host some of the most pioneering technology and lab spaces, all designed to inspire collaboration and cross-functional science. The Biologics Engineering (BE) department at AstraZeneca is constantly pushing the boundaries of science to deliver life-changing medicines to patients, with a passion for discovery and a pipeline to show for it. We’re applying our expertise in antibody discovery and protein engineering to enable novel therapeutic approaches to Oncology, Respiratory, Inflammatory, Cardiovascular and Infectious diseases. The group is seeking a dedicated and highly motivated senior scientist with strong background in single B-cell technologies, molecular and cell biology. We offer a unique and strong collaborative network as part of the AstraZeneca family, and together we explore paradigm shifting exciting new technologies.
We are seeking a highly motivated scientist to help design, optimize and implement novel immunization strategies to increase the repertoire diversity, specificity and potency of antibodies using transgenic mice. The role entails developing immunization strategies against complex membrane targets, isolation and characterization of hybridoma/B-cells, assay development, molecular cloning of V-genes and conducting selections for high-affinity antibodies binding to specific targets. The successful candidate will add to our team of multidisciplinary and passionate scientists excited by research at the interface between technology and Biology. They will be a well-organized and a highly productive bench scientist who can design and complete experiments efficiently, as well as analyse, interpret and present data.
Education & Experience Requirements:
A Master’s degree with 2-4 years of experience or Bachelor’s degree with 4-6 years of equivalent experience in in-vivo work, hybridoma generation, B-cell technologies, cell biology, and assay development
- Experience working with immunizing mice, hybridoma generation or using single B-cell technology for antibody generation
- Ability to execute experiments, develop assays, optimize protocols, and interpret experimental results
- Strong communication skills in a team environment, ability to learn and embrace new technologies quickly and science driven innovation
- Hands on experience with in vivo methods and hybridoma technology
- Comfortable with using automation for high-throughput isolation of antibodies/antibody genes
- Experience with next-generation sequencing, High through put flow-cytometry/FACS, ideally for single and bulk antigen specific B-cell sorting & population analysis
- Basic biochemical screening assay skills e.g. ELISA, cell based binding assays (e.g. iQue3)
- Experience in cell line engineering
