Global Medical Affairs Director - Diagnostics, Lung

Accountabilities:

- Global Diagnostic Strategy: Lead a unified diagnostics strategy for the lung portfolio, providing timely, high-quality input into global medical and lifecycle plans to deliver in-market companion diagnostics and testing solutions that enable optimal treatment selection and patient access.

- Strategic Partnerships: Build long-term, trust-based relationships with advocacy groups, scientific organizations, thought leaders, and HTA/payer bodies to shape best-in-class diagnostic capabilities aligned to portfolio medical needs.

- Diagnostics Medical Affairs Leadership: Direct all diagnostics-related Medical Affairs activities in collaboration with Tumor/Asset medical leaders, spanning scientific advisory boards, publications planning, evidence generation, diagnostic plan integration, and externally sponsored research and collaborations.

- Confidence Generation: Lead symposia, summits, and internal/external education to elevate diagnostic evidence and drive adoption of testing strategies among clinicians and health systems.

- Integration Across Assets: Embed diagnostic strategies in Tumor/Asset medical plans and provide diagnostics insights that inform broader strategy development and execution.

- Enterprise Contribution: Influence enterprise-level strategic planning to strengthen AstraZeneca’s leadership in medical diagnostics and shape future standards of care.

- Compliance Stewardship: Uphold AstraZeneca standards, SOPs, and external regulations across all medical and business activities.

 Essential Skills/Experience:

- Lead global diagnostic strategy, ensuring timely, high-quality input into global medical and lifecycle plans to deliver in-market companion diagnostics and testing solutions that enable optimal treatment selection and patient access to the right therapies.

- Develop long-term, trust-based relationships with key external oncology stakeholders—advocacy groups, scientific organizations, thought leaders, and HTA/payer bodies—to shape best-in-class diagnostic capabilities aligned to portfolio medical needs.

- Provide leadership across all diagnostics-related Medical Affairs activities in collaboration with Tumor/Asset medical leaders, including scientific advisory boards, publications planning, evidence generation, diagnostic plan integration, and externally sponsored research and collaborations.

- Lead diagnostic confidence-generation initiatives—symposia, summits, and internal/external education—to accelerate understanding and adoption of testing strategies.

- Embed diagnostic strategies within Tumor/Asset medical plans and contribute diagnostics insights that inform the development and execution of broader Tumor/Asset strategies.

- Contribute to enterprise-level strategic planning to strengthen AstraZeneca’s leadership in medical diagnostics.

- Ensure all medical and business activities meet AstraZeneca standards, SOPs, and external regulations.

 Desirable Skills/Experience:

- Demonstrated impact advancing companion diagnostics in oncology, ideally including lung cancer biomarkers and testing pathways.

- Track record designing and executing medical evidence strategies that inform HTA/payer perspectives and clinical practice.

- Experience leading clinical and scientific advisory boards and integrating diagnostic publications within asset publication plans.

- Success guiding externally sponsored research and multi-center collaborations to address diagnostic adoption and access barriers.

- Ability to translate complex diagnostic science into clear, actionable education for diverse audiences across regions.

- Comfort operating globally and cross-functionally, engaging R&D, Commercial, Market Access, and external partners to deliver results.

The annual base pay for this position ranges from $193,282 - $289,922. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles), to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles), and commission payment eligibility (sales roles). Benefits offered included a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and, health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans. Additional details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base pay (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
