Director, OBU Commercial Data Science & AI - Product is a catalyst in the Commercial Data Science & AI product team whose mission is to take a patient-centric, data-driven approach to personalize and transform healthcare delivery to the millions of patients along with a multi-disciplinary team of physicians who care for them. This responsibility involves working closely with cross-functional Science, Medical, and Business leaders to identify, prioritize, and develop DS & AI Products and solutions across AZ Oncology Business Unit (OBU).

The scope of this role is Global, serving all the markets where AstraZeneca’s life-changing medicines are approved to help patients live longer and realize AZ’s bold ambition of eliminating Cancer as a cause of death.

Our Gaithersburg, Maryland facility creates life-changing medicines for people around the world. Role Accountabilities:

  • Be a leader with a vision in Data Science applications to tackle business problems, building and supporting new capabilities. Develop awareness, understanding, and adoption of Data Science solutions across the US Commercial and Medical Leadership Team.

  • Evangelize DS&AI capabilities and products within US Oncology Business Unit with a digital product approach.

  • Support tumor-level prioritization of data science workstreams for a given therapeutic area and support long-term planning (roadmap) to ensure effective delivery of digital products to meet critical business needs across a rapidly growing oncology portfolio.

  • Collaborate closely with other business functions: Including Insights and Analytics, Marketing, Sales, and Medical to ensure data science techniques applied to patient-level data result in significant and useful outcomes for the business i.e., actionable outcomes.

  • Help develop and support data science solutions that achieve our omnichannel ambition and overall promotional efficiency. This includes partnering closely with team members that support omnichannel initiatives to deliver promotional mix analysis, next-best-action suggestions, and field & digital integration.

  • Support the regular assessment of data sources and other external vendors that can offer innovative solutions to elevate the delivery of data science products to the business.

Role Requirements:

  • Minimum Requirements:

  • BA/BS degree in a relevant field

  • 5+ years of pharmaceutical or biotechnology experience working for a biopharmaceutical company or other relevant industry (e.g., management consulting, market research, investment banking)

  • Experience contributing to large-scale end-to-end data science projects with shown success in improving business outcomes

  • Knowledge of data science techniques such as supervised and unsupervised ML modeling to tackle classification, regression, or other predictive analytics problems using appropriate tools (R, Python, SQL, etc.).

  • Experience or familiarity with data science tools and environments (S3, Athena, Sage Maker, Git, etc.)

  • Knowledge of secondary patient-level data sources including claims, EMR, GPO, or other relevant pharmaceutical data

Preferred Requirement:

  • Preferably a Sophisticated Quantitative Degree (e.g., Statistics, Engineering, or Economics)

  • Advanced Degree or equivalent experience" in a relevant field (e.g., MD, MBA, Ph.D., or MS/MA)

  • 7+ years of pharmaceutical or biotechnology experience working for commercial or medical function enabling digital or analytics capabilities

  • Oncology Data Science experience

  • Good understanding of pharmaceutical business processes

  • Digital product demeanour

The annual base pay for this position ranges from $150.356,00 to $225.534,00. Annual (80% - 120%). Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles), to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles), and commission payment eligibility (sales roles). Benefits offered included a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and, health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans. Additional details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base pay (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
