Director, Global Oncology Data Strategy
The Centre for Oncology Data Excellence is dedicated to delivering top-tier, scientifically rigorous research to support the Global Medical Evidence Generation organization. Within CODE, the Oncology Data Strategy team plays a crucial role in developing global, cross-tumor data strategies and conducting tumor-level analysis for assets and brands. These data assets and strategies are important for answering key clinical questions and supporting reimbursement submissions. As the Director of Global Oncology Data Strategy, you will report to the Head of CODE and collaborate with stakeholders across the organization to understand priorities and drive the execution of data strategies tailored to different regions and stakeholders. The ODS team is responsible for creating and implementing data strategy plans for three key regions: US, EUCAN, and ROW.
Accountabilities
- Drive the design, development, and execution of global tumor specific and across-tumor type data assets strategy & plans, and the development of annual data strategies for key markets including the US, EUCAN and ROW.
- Develop Global Oncology Data Strategy and guidance for data generation in collaboration with key stakeholders globally and for key regions.
- Inform the implementation and adoption of the data strategy across the Oncology Outcomes Research (O2R) and Global Medical teams.
- Lead a cross functional evaluation of multiple data sources that will be used by the O2R team and other functions within GMA and AstraZeneca
- Lead enterprise-wide Oncology Data Tumor Boards facilitating cross-functional best practice sharing (e.g., experiences with data assets used by multiple functions within AstraZeneca, discussions of different data sources). The Data Tumor Boards would also be a forum for cross-functional discussion of innovative pilots for new methodologies or capabilities.
- Generate up-to-date knowledge on external data ecosystem by commissioning regular landscape assessments
- Identify data needs across the Global Medical Oncology Portfolio, building the data narrative, the value proposition of data, and the impact on brand/tumour strategies and the patient care experience.
- Lead Global Medical data acquisition and facilitate acquisition-related contracting and negotiation.
- Lead enterprise-wide workshops or initiatives (i.e., data hackathon) to enhance AstraZeneca’s understanding and utilization of new data assets
- Ensure that all Medical and business activities are carried out in compliance with AstraZeneca standards, standard operating procedures, and external regulations
- Closely collaborates with the Head, Oncology Outcomes Research and Tumor leads to identify and evaluate data assets and develop an annual data strategic plan for key assets and regions in partnership w/ key stakeholders.
Essential Skills/Experience
- 6 years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry with an MS in epidemiology, outcomes research, statistics, data science, or related fields.
- Demonstrated expertise in analytical, judgment, and problem-solving skills.
- Significant experience navigating multiple types of datasets to understand their pros and cons and best uses. Hands-on experience with large and diverse datasets globally from EMR, claims, and survey data.
- Strong research skills with the ability to independently evaluate highly diverse data sources in multiple geographies.
- Expertise in the healthcare industry, including clinical knowledge across multiple therapeutic areas (traditional and specialty areas), healthcare reimbursement, technical expertise in economic evaluations or patient-reported outcomes, preferably including data analysis and statistics.
- Solid experience in conducting outcomes research studies applying health economics, patient-reported outcomes, retrospective data analyses, epidemiology, or health services research.
- Engagement/project leadership experience including management experience and leading team member relationships.
- Scientific and business expertise in oncology with a strong understanding of key global and regional issues and concerns.
- Significant understanding of research methodologies and statistics.

- PhD, MD or PharmD in a scientific subject area.
- Expert reputation within the business and industry.
- Extensive knowledge of the latest technical and regulatory expectations.
- Operational expertise in risk management and planning.
- Familiarity with the latest research and thinking.

The annual base pay for this position ranges from $185,000 to $278,000. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles), to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles), and commission payment eligibility (sales roles). Benefits offered included a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and, health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans.
