The ‘R&D, Operations and Enabling Units Compliance’ team provides compliance support to a diverse range of business partners including (but not limited to): R&D, Operations, IT, Corporate Affairs, Business Development and Finance.

As Associate Director - Compliance you will work alongside a variety of partners across the business providing advice to embed a culture of ethics and integrity within the organisation. You will also provide strategic direction and project management support for compliance initiatives, training campaigns, and assist with individual compliance investigations and risk assessment activities.

As such the role is incredibly varied and provides experience across a broad range of disciplines and risk areas. For example, in a single day you may be asked for advice upon: a medical ethics question, plans that have an anti-bribery & anti-corruption angle, input on a potential conflict of interest, or, whether a particular proposal could give rise to an off-label promotion risk.

With that in mind the role is best suited to candidates with a high degree of flexibility and learning agility. It is also important to have a ‘Can Do’ attitude and the ability to generate simple solutions to complex challenges whilst balancing the need for sensible risk management. Finally, you will have a proactive ‘Business Partnering’ mindset and the ability to communicate and establish credibility and trust with stakeholders and colleagues across the globe. This is critical to enable you to influence decisions and thereby sustain the Compliance Framework.

Key accountabilities:

  • You will be a key point of contact for the business to support compliance aspects in day-to-day decision-making;
  • You will establish a network of contacts with assigned business groups and act as an ambassador for compliance;
  • You will devise and implement various compliance programs required to maintain and improve compliance behaviours through effective implementation of policies, processes, training and support;
  • You will ensure that Compliance aspects are embedded in business strategy and processes
  • You will represent Compliance on business change initiatives; and provide business partner support for compliance related investigations working closely with the Compliance Investigation team;
  • You will support the Compliance Assurance Team in monitoring the effectiveness of the local compliance framework and business continuity and risk mitigation controls;
  • You will identify and focus effort on prioritised compliance risk areas across the business;

Ideally, you will have practical experience in a Compliance, Audit or QA role. However, you will work closely with Senior Compliance Professionals in the initial stages of your career within Compliance at AstraZeneca. Therefore, if you have broad experience in the pharmaceutical industry, all the right skills and abilities and a clear desire to learn Compliance at AstraZeneca we will still be interested to know more about you.

To be successful in this role we think the following experience is essential:

  • Academic degree;
  • Broad experience in the pharmaceutical industry and hence a good understanding of the compliance risks in at least one area/discipline: Discovery, Development, Manufacturing, and/or Commercial/Marketing process;
  • Practical experience advising in applicable risk areas (e.g., bribery & corruption, healthcare fraud, data privacy, pharmaceutical promotion regulations etc.) and/or on-the-job experience in a Compliance/QA role preferred.
  • A team player that shares with and supports their colleagues;
  • Proactive business partner mindset and proven ability to establish credibility and trust with customers across the different business units;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; must be able to maintain effective and collaborative working relationships across several countries (virtual interactions);
  • Excellent written, oral, and listening communication skills
  • Pragmatic and solution-oriented thinker with a strong desire to find simple solutions to complex challenges;
  • Uncompromising professional ethics and integrity; must be able to treat individuals with respect under all circumstances; must be able to scrupulously protect confidential information;
  • Comfortable operating independently and exercising judgment when to involve other team members based on risk;
  • Self-motivated and personally committed to self-development and growth; capable of dealing with a fast-paced and fluid environment with constant change and frequent ambiguity.
