Associate Director, Tissue Imaging Scientist, is in charge of the day-to-day operations of the Histology and Clinical Immunohistochemistry laboratory and supervision of team scientists. This includes staff development, identification and implementation of process improvements and performance management against corporate, departmental and personal goals. The Associate Director conducts scientific research as part of a team effort and demonstrates outstanding organization, technical and operational skills with the ability to lead multiple priorities effectively. The Associate Director works independently and participates effectively as part of a team.
Major Duties and Responsibilities (including supervising others):
Maintain a solid understanding of departmental standard operating procedures. This knowledge includes the use of specialized instrumentation, special staining techniques, quality control requirements, and preventative maintenance. Technical staining procedures include but are not limited to: routine H&E, special stains, immunofluorescence, and immunohistochemical staining.
Maintain up to date training in Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs) in support of toxicology studies and Good Clinical Laboratory Practices (GCLPs) for clinical trials.
Adhere to the highest laboratory standards including safety and company Code of Conduct.
Run multiple projects with high level of detail with excellent communication skills with pathologists, scientists, managers and co-workers.
Provide technical mentorship and oversight in the lab
Run departmental budget
Conduct research focused on the translational aspects of drug development in collaboration with supervisor and other individuals within the research department.
Lead all aspects of management of clinical trial samples and staining
Find opportunities and lead team in the process of improving initiatives and implementing action plans.
Ensure accurate management of research, pre-clinical and clinical human tissue following company’s HBS guidelines.
Supervisory duties include full range of recruitment and performance evaluation activities and individual staff development
Ensure staff are trained and proficient
Proactive integration with internal and external groups and suppliers. Collaborate with counterparts globally to harmonize standard methodologies across sites to ensure alignment.
Continually enhance slide quality as well as the efficiency of the personnel and laboratory areas.
Handle departmental workload and prioritization. Coordinates the daily/weekly activities of the team.
Resolve problems and notify manager of resolutions, as appropriate
Ensure that all employees follow all company and departmental policies; initiate performance improvement with employees as needed.
Participate in company meetings and conduct department meetings routinely
Maintain equipment and instruments in good operating condition’ recognize any malfunctions and troubleshoot.
Perform others duties as assigned.
Minimum MS degree, PhD preferred, with 1-3 years’ experience preferred.
Experience in routine histology/microtomy and IHC
Shown project management skills
Basic understanding of drug development process for biologics
Basic understanding of immunology
Basic understanding of pharmacokinetics and PK/PD relationships
Level of Supervision Required:
High level of independence; required to supervise laboratory functions and direct reports with minimal oversight from manager.
