Are you an inspiring Leader with experience in medicine development? We’re searching for an Associate Director of Business Planning and Operations to become the strategic business partner to our Biometrics and Regulatory Affairs VPs and teams within Late-stage Respiratory & Immunology development at AstraZeneca. Through active partnership with the Late Respiratory and Immunology Leadership team, this individual will also lead the development and execution of strategic initiatives that support our goal of advancing the science for patients with Respiratory & Immunology-based diseases.

Building on a 50-year heritage in respiratory care, our ambition is to transform the treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) by driving earlier, biology-led treatment, eliminating preventable asthma attacks, and removing COPD as a top-three leading cause of death. With common pathways and underlying disease drivers across respiratory and immunology, we are following the science from chronic lung diseases to immune-driven diseases. Our growing presence in immunology is focused on five mid- to late-stage franchises with multi-disease potential in rheumatology (including systemic lupus erythematosus, dermatology, gastroenterology and systemic eosinophilic-driven diseases). Our ambition in immunology is to achieve disease control and ultimately clinical remission in targeted immune-driven diseases.

Typical Accountabilities

•Leads capacity management process for function (including subfunctions), including forecasting, reporting, tracking and monitoring/improvement of progress

•Drives capacity assessments to inform resource business needs for planning; business cycle updates, project investment decisions, new opportunities, submissions etc

•Develops strategies for talent management, staff training and recruitment

•Will work closely with Head of Business Planning and Operations to ensure optimal usage of available resources, both people and funds, to deliver the greatest level of productivity and maximum value for the organization.

•Working with Late R&I leadership will define, implement, monitor and communicate  strategic goals of business processes, change management and continuous improvement.

•Will develop function scorecard and track progress

•Lead complex projects in Late R&I, partnering with other functions outside of Late RIA as necessary to drive enterprise-wide solutions.

•Requires regular contact with persons of influence and in decision-making positions within AstraZeneca globally. 

•Requires a high level of cultural sensitivity, interactive communication, negotiation and effective collaboration. This necessitates considerable tact, discretion and persuasion to obtain desired outcomes while maintaining ongoing professional relationships.

Essential Requirements

•A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree

•Leadership skills, including the ability to solve problems and develop multiple options/recommendations

•Ability to act independently, decisively & manage complex processes

•Extensive networking skills, ability to interact widely and effectively across global & functional boundaries, both internally & externally

•Proven ability to work cross functionally with multiple customers and on multiple projects simultaneously

•Drug development experience and understanding stages of development milestones

•Experience in portfolio and resource management

•High attention to detail and accuracy

•Excellent written, presentation and verbal communications skills

•Proven track record of delivering tasks in a timely manner

•Problem solving attitude with a focus on delivery

•Ability to build strong relationships, influence decisions & build teams
