As a Technician III-Lab Services in Frederick, MD, you’ll play a pivotal role in channeling our scientific capabilities to make a positive impact on changing patients’ lives. Main Responsibilities

The technician will be required to perform routine calibration, preventive maintenance and repairs to laboratory instruments and components of production equipment in a GMP environment. 

Scope:

  • Technician must have considerable knowledge of the job.  Complete acquaintance with and understanding of the general and detailed aspects of the job, and their practical applications to problems and situations ordinarily encountered.
  • Technician will perform troubleshooting and repair efforts to return equipment to normal operation.
  • Familiarity with lab instrumentation, including HPLC, GC, UV-Vis, etc.
  • Ability to develop new maintenance and calibration procedures
  • Ability to train other technicians
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Limited supervision.  No instructions needed on routine work, and general instructions given on new lines of work or special assignments.
  • Errors may be difficult to detect and would normally result in loss of customer business, material, or equipment to resolve.
  • Contacts are frequent with individuals representing other departments, and/or representing outside organizations.  Contacts involve obtaining or providing information or data on matters of moderate importance to the function of the department or which may be of sensitive nature, requiring some explanation or interpretation. 
  • Frequent contact will include area/equipment managements, to report equipment status and to coordinate maintenance activities.
  • Some contact with senior management.

Job Responsibilities:

Must be able to troubleshoot problems in the event of instrument failure and be able to recommend parts needed for the effective repair. 

Must be able to assist manufacturing and facilities personnel in troubleshooting and diagnostic analysis on process and utility equipment.   

Major areas of responsibility may include the following:

  • Perform maintenance, calibration, and repair of lab instrumentation
  • Send instruments offsite for PM/calibrations
  • Contractor management and oversite of vendors coming onsite for instrumentation support
  • Train other technicians as applicable on new procedures
  • Train contractors/service engineers on site procedures
  • Develop and write maintenance and calibration procedures
  • Calibrate pipettes/oversee pipette calibration program
  • Maintain all documentation in cGxP format
  • Own change controls and deviations
  • Support department and site projects

Additional Job Functions:

  • Use basic hand tools
  • Utilize precision measuring instruments. Must be able to work in a clean room environment
  • Candidate must possess computer skills, be detail oriented, and be able to complete any required documentation in a timely manner
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Must have ability to communicate both orally and written in a clear and concise manner
  • Conduct activities and interactions consistent with Company values and in compliance with the Code of Conduct and supporting Policies and Standards relevant to your role.  Complete all required training on the AZ Code of Conduct and supporting Policies and Standards on time.  Report potential issues of non-compliance.

Education:

  • HS Diploma, technical school and or certificate of completion at a 2 years technical school, or experience in plant or equipment maintenance, or Military training and/or experience in biotech/pharmaceutical industry.

Experience:

  • 1 to 3 years of experience with HS diploma, technical school. Military training in this area is a plus.
