Responsible for supporting multi-product, commercial scale manufacturing at the Frederick Manufacturing Center (FMC).

  • Initiates deviations and manages change control when required.  
  • Identifies and implements corrective actions.
  • Participates and/or leads teams to improve quality and efficiency of operations.  
  • Must have excellent leadership and communication skills, including the ability to develop employees.
  • Works proactively to optimize warehouse operations through creative solutions, acting alone and/or on teams.  
  • Drives operational excellence and provides materials management expertise to other functional areas.  
  • Negotiate and implement lean processes while maintaining relationships with customers in other functional groups.
  • Demonstrates leadership and business acumen in actions, interactions, and decisions.  Liaises with Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, Finance, and Facilities.  
  • Delegates work assignments to staff where appropriate.   
  • Enforces Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs) in warehouse operations.  
  • Enforces compliance with local, DOT, FAA, OSHA, AstraZeneca and all other applicable regulations.  
  • Responsible for ensuring staff is trained on appropriate SOP’s at all times.  
  • Ensures staff obtains appropriate technical training and certifications to safely handle hazardous materials and operate material handling equipment.
  • Responsible for all shipping and receiving activities at FMC, including hazardous, non-hazardous, GMP and non-GMP materials.  
  • Responsible for control of raw materials and semi-finished goods, including cell bank inventories, frozen BDS and liquid BDS.  
  • Collaborates with Quality Assurance to ensure materials are effectively controlled, based on status.  
  • Understands and ensures best practices in materials management are followed.  
  • Ensures optimal use of SAP and other information systems in daily warehouse operations. 
  • Oversees execution of routine monitoring, storage and shipment of BDS to contract manufacturing organizations (CMO’s).  
  • Responsible for all equipment monitoring and maintenance in the warehouse areas, including environmental chambers, temperature monitoring devices, and material handling and transportation equipment.
  • Functions as an advisor to a unit regarding tasks, projects, and operations.  Becomes actively involved in daily operations only when required to meet schedules or to resolve complex problems.
  • Demonstrates experience with hazardous materials, experience managing dangerous goods, and international shipping.  
  • Assignments are received in task-and objective-orientated terms.  Provides direction to subordinates based on general policies and management guidelines.  Work is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives.  Interprets and executes policies and procedures that typically affect subordinate organizational units.
  • Recommends modifications to operating policies.
  • Ensures that projects are completed on schedule and within budget.  Erroneous decisions or recommendations or failure to complete assignments would normally result in serious delays to assigned projects resulting in considerable expenditure of additional time, human resources, and funds.
  • Frequent contacts with internal personnel and outside customer representatives at various management levels concerning operations or scheduling or specific phases of projects or contracts.  Conducts briefings and participates in technical meetings for internal representatives concerning specific operations.
  • Accomplishes results through lower-level employees who exercise some latitude and independence in their assignments.  Often heads a centralized functional activity. 
  • Functions as an advisor to a unit regarding tasks, projects, and operations.  Becomes actively involved in daily operations only when required to meet schedules or to resolve complex problems.
  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  
  • Write routine reports and correspondence. 
  • Speak effectively before auditors, customers, or employee groups.
  • Ensure and monitor compliance by team members and third parties by (a) positively reinforcing the Code of Conduct and all relevant AstraZeneca Policies and Standards, (b) ensuring completion of all required training, (c) fostering a culture of openness in which employees are comfortable raising questions or concerns, and (d) immediately addressing and reporting, as appropriate, instances of non-compliance.
  • Manager Accountabilities at AstraZeneca include Ethical Conduct and Compliance, Team Management, Performance Management, Individual Development Planning, Talent Management, Recruitment, People information, SHE accountabilities, and Fiscal and Financial awareness. 
  • Leaders with accountability for GXP areas are expected to understand the legal and regulatory requirements of their roles in providing appropriate resources (which could be human, financial, material, facilities, and equipment) to maintain the Quality system and continually improve its effectiveness.



  • High School diploma or GED required plus a minimum of 7 years in GMP or regulated environment or specific responsibility for material logistics
  • Additional education in life sciences, logistics or another applicable field a plus.
  • College degree preferred.


  • Prior experience in a regulatory environment (GMP or GDP).
  • Minimum of four (4) years previous supervisory or project management experience.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years in GMP or regulated environment or specific responsibility for material logistics
  • Knowledge of FDA cGMP’s and/or regulatory audit
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft applications, SAP, Trackwise


  • Minimum of ten (10) years’ experience preferred in supply chain.
  • Ability to direct and participate in cross-functional teams.
  • Experience working in a LEAN manufacturing environment
  • Experience in Warehouse and Distribution
  • APICS Certification
