As the Manager, Automation Engineering, you will be carrying out managerial responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies, procedures, and state, federal and local laws.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Oversees and manages automation activities in regard to the engineering of control systems used for GMP manufacturing processes, utility control systems to support manufacturing, and building control systems.
  • Ensures that all automation department activities are performed and documented accurately, and are in compliance with SOP’s, cGMP, and FDA requirements.
  • Assures the appropriate level of training for all automation staff, following corporate guidelines and policies.
  • Supports and promotes corporate, site vision and mission statements, and goals.
  • Manage a staff of Automation Engineers and Technicians.
  • Develop projects for improving the operation and efficiency of control systems. 
  • Lead projects for modifications and improvements for control systems such as:
    • upgrades to equipment and software
    • checkout and installation of new equipment
    • developing reports from historian data
  • Complete understanding of control networks, network equipment, and server operation for control systems are required. The applicant must have a good understanding of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Works on unusually complex technical problems and provide solutions which are highly innovative and ingenious.
  • Assignments are received in task-and objective-orientated terms. Provides direction to subordinates based on general policies and management guidelines. Work is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives. Interprets and executes policies and procedures that typically affect subordinate organizational units. Recommends modifications to operating policies.
  • Ensures that projects are completed on schedule and within budget. Erroneous decisions or recommendations or failure to complete assignments would normally result in serious delays to assigned projects resulting in considerable expenditure of additional time, human resources, and funds.
  • Serves as organization spokesperson on advanced projects and/or programs.  Acts as an adviser to management and customers on advanced technical research studies and applications.
  • Accomplishes results through lower-level subordinate supervisors or through experienced exempt employees who exercise significant latitude and independence in their assignments.  Often heads a centralized functional activity.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelors:  Engineering – Electrical
  • 10+ years of experience working as a control engineer
  • Experience with control project leadership and have experience with control of GMP pharmaceutical manufacturing process equipment or other comparable experience
  • This position requires experience with fermentor / bioreactor processes, purification processes, HVAC and utilities.
