ABOUT THE ROLE

In the role of Knowledge Engineer within the AI Services group you will be helping to make AstraZeneca’s data FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reproducible). To do this you will be expected to use state of the art techniques in areas such as Information Extraction, NLP, Data Engineering and graph.  We don’t expect you to be an expert in all of these but we will expect expertise in some and a willingness to learn and develop.

To do this you will need excellent software engineering skills and extensive experience of developing data processing, integration workflows for structured and unstructured data. You will also ideally have a good understanding, semantic technologies (Controlled vocabularies, ontologies and knowledge graphs).

You will be part of a global AI Services group  which works on areas such Computer Vision, NLP and Optimisation and you will have the opportunity to work in projects with leading experts in some of these areas.

Candidate Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Keyskillsandexperience

• Excellent software engineering skills, with deep knowledge of Python

• Extensive experience in developing scalable data processing workflows including unstructured & semi structured data

• Experience of developing applications involving either machine learning, NLP, knowledge graphs or semantic technologies

• Deep technical skills in 2 or more of the following areas: knowledge representation, knowledge graphs, natural language processing, data integration, data engineering and ontology development

• Familiarity with application deployment technologies (containerised workflows, Kubernetes) and  cloud provisioning tools (eg CloudFormation, Terraform)

• A good background of working in software engineering teams and applying software engineering best practice

• Good working knowledge of cloud environments (AWS preferred).

Desirable skills and experience

• Experience with graph and linked data technologies, e.g. property graph, RDF(S), SPARQL, and triple-stores

• Experience of working with data sources relevant to Drug Development or Biomedicine.

• Experience with large scale data processing frameworks eg) Hadoop/spark

• Familiarity with database technologies, RDBMS, NoSQL

In addition, candidates will be expected to demonstrate:

• Good communication and facilitation skills

• Good written and verbal skills, fluent English.
