The Axial Programme will be powered by S/4HANA a new ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system which will be implemented right across the organisation and will provide our business with standardised processes, enhanced financial management, common data and real time reporting, transforming the way we work through our entire supply chain - from bench to patient.
The new system will be used by more than 20,000 employees daily, is foundational to all AZ entities and is central to most core business processes. This is a once in a generation programme for AstraZeneca and will shape our ways of working globally for many years to come.

Are you ready to lead the AI revolution at AstraZeneca? We’re seeking a visionary AI leader to pioneer the development of cutting-edge AI capabilities on our new SAP stack. You’ll head a dynamic team investigating SAP’s AI potential, driving innovation through proof-of-concepts, first-use cases, and governance strategies. In this pivotal role, you’ll collaborate with senior leaders to shape our AI operating model, foster innovation, and unlock transformative value across AstraZeneca’s SAP estate. We are looking for an AI leader who can pioneer the build of an AI capability on AstraZeneca’s new SAP stack.
We are building and leading a large (50+ FTE) team of analytics specialists, AI experts and business analysts to support the delivery of analytics and AI on AstraZeneca’s new SAP stack. You will lead a small team that will be investigating the AI capabilities of the SAP analytics stack. This will include: running PoCs; building out the first use cases; supporting the governance of AI; working with senior leaders to define the AI operating model; building out an ideation and innovation approach for emerging AI team.
The potential for AI across AstraZeneca’s SAP estate is massive. We are starting with a clean slate, and anticipate that we should start to derive significant value over the next few years.
Essential experience
- In depth knowledge of AI techniques and tools
- Real world experience of applying AI in business processes
- Real world experience of using AI to develop insights
- Experience of AI governance
- Experience of good engineering practices at scale
Desirable experience
- AI delivery within regulatory frameworks (EU AI Act, GxP, SOX, GDPR)
- Pharmaceutical industry experience
- Experience of manufacturing, supply chain, distribution,
- Experience of finance processes (R2R, P2P, O2C etc),
- MLOps,
- SAP Datasphere, SAP Analytics Cloud,
- Team leadership and team building.
