Introduction to role:
Are you ready to make a meaningful impact on patients' lives through your work? AstraZeneca is seeking a Strategic Operations Manager to join its Global Commercial Services team. This role is perfect for a highly organized and proactive professional who grows with structure, clarity, and accountability. You'll support the large team of Business Services within Content & Omnichannel operations, blending executive support, project management, and operational coordination. Working closely with the Senior Director Business Services Content and Omnichannel Operations and their leadership team, you'll ensure meetings, projects, initiatives, and communications run seamlessly. Accountabilities:
In this dynamic role, you'll focus on three core elements:

Owning the PMO (Portfolio Management Office) for C&O Business Services:

  • Set up and own portfolio governance and review, recommending tools and templates for the team.

  • Develop and optimize reporting templates based on collaborator feedback.

  • Coordinate the overall portfolio of team projects, initiatives, and activities, ensuring delivery against objectives, milestones, and KPIs.

  • Ensure clear visibility of activity status and address potential risks early.

  • Archive and evaluate project outcomes to optimize future processes.

  • Organize and facilitate team meetings and events, recording decisions and generating timely reports.

Acting as Project Manager for strategic team projects:

  • Lead medium/high complexity and risk functional projects.

  • Lead change management discussions from project outset, ensuring strategic decisions benefit the organization.

  • Create and implement detailed project plans, revising them as needed to meet changing requirements.

  • Drive accountability by assigning individual responsibilities for actions needed to progress plans.

  • Manage relationships with key business collaborators to capture business requirements effectively.

Team coordination:

  • Design and run communication rhythms for GCS Business Services, including quarterly townhalls and portfolio governance meetings.

  • Lead engagement initiatives to cultivate enthusiasm, collaboration, and ownership across projects and services.

  • Other areas of responsibility:

  • As we strive to achieve our Omnichannel vision, expect extreme and constant change in the first 1-2 years. You'll need to:

  • Identify problems and improve existing methods using personal experiences and feedback.

  • Independently plan and follow up on execution, project progress, and resource evaluation.

Essential Skills/Experience:

  • A minimum of 7+ years’ experience associated with supporting large organizations in a role associated with PMO 

  • Demonstrated experience of successful PMO leadership and project management, with a formal Project Management qualification / certification.

  • Trusted to deliver, highly organized, disciplined and has a high level of attention to detail

  • Able to multi-task under pressure. Proven ability to meet tight deadlines, often working on projects simultaneously

  • Strong understanding of the pharmaceutical / healthcare industry, market dynamics and major AstraZeneca business drivers

  • Proven stakeholder management. Demonstrated ability to build credibility and strong relationships with internal and external collaborators and facilitate key discussions

  • Demonstrated capability in working collaboratively, critical thinking and problem-solving using communication styles that are appropriate for the situation and collaborators

  • Proven experience working to understand and evaluate complex business processes and driving process optimization initiatives

  • Commercially astute

  • Analytical and inquisitive

  • An agile thinker, open to new insights and able to quickly design and implement entrepreneurial customer focused solutions

  • Strong oral and written communication skills in business English

Desirable Skills/Experience:

  • Pharmaceutical industry/GBS  

  • Digital Marketing services experience 

  • Knowledge of Omnichannel enabling technology platforms and how they are leveraged to enable various aspects of a customer experience  

  • Hands-on experience working with collaboration & data tools including Jira, Smartsheet and PowerBI.
