Analyst - Sustainability Data Steward
Job Title: Analyst
Career Level: C3
Introduction to role:
Are you ready to turn sophisticated sustainability data into trusted insight that shapes decisions and meets rising regulatory expectations? As an Analyst focused on Sustainability Data Stewardship, you will ensure the quality, consistency, and governance of sustainability data that underpins our disclosures and guides how we operate. Your work will directly support reliable reporting, regulatory compliance, and smarter decision-making across emissions and resource use.
In this role, you will be the operational link between business and technology teams, embedding standards and controls while enabling data products that serve analytics, reporting, and assurance. Do you enjoy bringing order to sophisticated datasets and aligning diverse partners to a single standard? You will work with colleagues in Sustainability, Operations, Real Estate, Finance, and Digital/IT to build a common data language, reduce ambiguity, and make our sustainability data discoverable and trusted—so the business can act at pace with confidence.
Accountabilities:
- Stewardship of Sustainability Data (Scope 1, 2, and 3): Own day-to-day data assets to ensure accuracy, completeness, and alignment to defined standards, enabling trusted reporting and decision-making from site to enterprise level.
- Data Quality Management: Monitor, prioritise, and resolve data quality issues in collaboration with data owners and system owners; call out risks when standards are not met to protect regulatory submissions and external disclosures.
- Standards and Controls: Implement and maintain data standards, definitions, and validation rules consistently across regions and systems; contribute to continuous improvement of governance frameworks and processes to raise the quality bar.
- Metadata and Catalogue Management: Maintain and improve the data catalogue and metadata (definitions, lineage, quality metrics, usage guidance) so sustainability data is easily discoverable, understandable, and fit for purpose for business users.
- Data Product Delivery: Partner with Data Product Managers & technical teams to develop, test, and lead sustainability datasets that meet business requirements for reporting, analytics, and compliance, ensuring clear acceptance criteria and traceability.
- Customer Guidance and Adoption: Serve as the primary point of contact for sustainability data queries, guiding global customers on data definitions, usage, and governance principles and influencing the adoption of standards to drive consistency at scale.
- Process Improvement and Controls: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve data collection, validation & governance, strengthening controls and driving operational efficiency throughout the sustainability data lifecycle.
- Governance Forums: Contribute to data working groups to advise prioritisation, unblock issues, and implement governance initiatives—progressing from immediate issue resolution to shaping enterprise-wide practices and adoption.
Essential Skills/Experience:
- Degree in a relevant field (e.g. Data, Business, Finance, Sustainability, Engineering) or equivalent experience
- Proven experience in data governance, data quality, or data management roles
- Strong understanding of data standards, validation rules, and governance processes
- Experience in monitoring and resolving data quality issues, including working with structured datasets
- Ability to work effectively with global, cross-functional collaborators (business and technical teams)
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention to detail skills
- Experience working with data in enterprise systems and structured environments (e.g. databases, reporting tools)
- SQL (data extraction, querying, validation checks)
- Python (data analysis, data quality checks, data manipulation)
Desirable Skills/Experience:
- Experience with sustainability / ESG data (e.g. emissions, energy, environmental reporting)
- Exposure to enterprise systems supporting sustainability or data governance, such as: Enablon (AZ SHE System) or similar EHS / sustainability platforms
- Workivo or other reporting tools
- Familiarity with enterprise master data sources and system landscape, such as: Workday (HR / organisational data), Real Estate / property systems (e.g. RADAR)
- Experience with data visualisation or analytics tools (e.g. Power BI)
- Understanding of data product concepts, metadata management, or master data management
- Experience working in a GBS / shared services or global delivery environment
