This is what you will do:

The Genomic Medicine group at Alexion Pharmaceuticals, AstraZeneca Rare Disease, is excited to offer an outstanding opportunity for a Senior Scientist position within our Neurogenomics team.

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual with a strong computational background, extensive expertise in handling large next generation sequencing datasets with a solid background in neurobiology. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with different human and mouse neuro models, combining computational expertise with neuroscientific insights. The candidate will contribute to data generation, collaborate in discovering high-quality drug candidates, and will help driving programs to IND.

You will be responsible for:

  • Conduct comprehensive analysis of large genomic datasets to identify novel insights related to rare neurology and neuromuscular biology.
  • Utilize advanced computational techniques to assess off-target effects and optimize experimental protocols in support of RNAi and gene silencing strategies.
  • Design and implement experiments using various human and mouse models, integrating computational analyzes into experimental workflows.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to drive research projects and contribute to the development of genomic medicine solutions. Interface with external collaborators from academia and industry.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in computational biology, gene therapy, gene editing and neurobiology to incorporate cutting-edge techniques into research projects.
  • Present research findings internally and externally, contributing to scientific publications and conferences.
  • Design, complete experimental studies, carry out data analysis and interpretation and record results in electronic lab notebook.
  • Support lab work for different programs in the portfolio.
  • Training junior team members.

You will need to have:

  • PhD in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Neuroscience, or a related field
  • 3-5 years of industry experience
  • Proven expertise in computational analysis, statistical methods, and programming languages (e.g. Python, R) for handling large genomic datasets.
  • Experience with analysis of NGS datasets - such as with amplicon, chip, bulk or single cell sequencing.
  • Extensive experience in neurobiology research, with a focus on human and mouse models
  • Experience with gene therapy, gene silencing (RNAi, miRNA, ASO), gene editing or AAV biology is required.
  • Strong publication record demonstrating contributions to computational and neuroscientific research.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team-oriented environment and big pharma landscape.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive scientific projects, analyze complex data, and present findings to diverse audiences.

We would prefer for you to have:

  • Data analysis from long read sequencing and/or spatial transcriptomics or genomics

When we put unexpected teams in the same room, we unleash bold thinking with the power to inspire life-changing medicines. In-person working give us the platform we need to connect, work at pace and challenge perceptions. That’s why we work, on average, a minimum of three days per week from the office. But that doesn’t mean we’re not flexible. We balance the expectation of being in the office while respecting individual flexibility. Join us in our unique and ambitious world.
