Competitive Salary & Benefits

Role Summary/Main Purpose

As a Senior Research Scientist working within Antibody Discovery and Protein Engineering (ADPE), a multi-functional department, you will be responsible for applying and developing experimental and computational methods of antibody repertoire sequence analysis to advance biologics drug discovery. You will also work closely and collaboratively with Protein Engineers across ADPE and with Research Bioinformatic scientists.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • You will work with a cross-functional team of scientists and bioinformaticians to develop sequence analysis solutions relevant to biologics drug discovery
  • You will plan, design and execute projects using Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) to analyse antibody repertoires from both display (e.g. phage, ribosome, yeast) and immunised animals
  • High quality NGS data capture, curation and analysis to enable the development of machine learning algorithms
  • You will drive innovate experimental techniques to facilitate high throughput antibody sequence analysis
  • You will also be working with bioinformatics colleagues to develop and implement protocols for computational analysis of large sequence datasets
  • You will establish contacts with centres of excellence in NGS and interact with suppliers and CROs to generate data with a variety of technologies
  • You will have the opportunity to mentor and support the training of technical and non-expert colleagues in NGS technologies and data analysis
  • You will be working with teams across ADPE to discover novel ways of utilising NSG data to facilitate drug discovery
  • You will communicate and visualise the output of analyses to non-expert colleagues and business leaders
  • You will participate in broader science community to stay up to date with current advances in sequence technology
  • You will work with drug discovery projects to answer key scientific questions
  • You will ensure that results are scientifically robust and documented
  • You will maintain high level of expertise through review of current scientific literature, submissions to scientific journals, and attendance and participation at conferences

Education, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Essential

  • PhD in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics or related discipline.
  • Evidence of using novel experimental techniques to generate sequencing data
  • Compelling evidence of working successfully within a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience of using NGS technologies (e.g. Miseq, NovaSeq, PacBio) and analysing the large datasets generated
  • Record of publication in high impact journals
  • Good communicator with ability to explain complex ideas to a broad audience

Desirable

  • Postdoctoral experience working within an industrial or academic environment
  • Use of NGS to explore antibody repertories or to direct protein engineering
  • Experience of using computational methods to analyse large volumes of sequence data

If you are interested in this role, please apply by submitting your CV before 19th Oct 2019.
