Project Manager, Medical Affairs - Oncology

In this role you will drive strategic planning and execution of the Oncology Business Unit (OBU) projects and accountabilities for the DNA Damage Response (DDR) franchise in the OBU Medical organization. This includes interface at a franchise and tumor-specific level (ovarian, breast, and prostate) with cross-functional teams such as Medical Capabilities, R&D and Global Marketing.

The role includes project oversight and management, overarching budget management and oversight, change management, and cross-functional coordination with other franchise medical teams. The role would also involve coordination of work within alliances applicable to the DDR franchise. The ideal candidate for this position would report directly to the Strategy & Operations Lead for OBU Medical but would work closely with the franchise lead.


  • Supports the Franchise Head to execute on the portfolio strategy from Global, including prioritization of project, programs, etc. and infrastructure / capability build
  • Partners with functional leads or Medical Affairs Leads (MALs) for project oversight and budget management
  • Facilitates overall budget and strategic workforce planning across the functional groups within the franchise team including forecasting, phasing and prioritization across the business planning cycle (monthly reference line, quarterly RBUs and ABU) as well as rollup into Long Range Plans (LRPs)
  • Tracks budget and project portfolio within PRIME and runs routine analytics including monthly run rate, actuals versus forecast, and prioritization of portfolio
  • In alignment with Franchise Head, is responsible for the long-range strategic planning for the franchise team including development of Integrated Medical Affairs Plans (IMAPs) and alignment to Brand Strategy Plan (BSP)
  • Act as primary support to Global Medical Team (GMT) to ensure development and execution of key critical strategic initiatives and track deliverables from the GMT as well as from representative countries that sit on the GMT, including Evidence, Confidence, and Medical Launch activities and associated budgets
  • Partner with other S&O PMs supporting Global Medical Teams (GMTs) to ensure alignment and appropriate inclusion of support functions into IMAP development and evidence generation, budget forecasting and portfolio prioritization.
  • Creates and maintains project / deliverables dashboard and develops cross-functional tactical plans, based on the strategy, to support tollgating & other business decisions for OBU Medical.
  • Interfaces with stakeholders (internal and external to OBU Medical) and positions projects for prioritization within the broader business context as part of the LRP and ABU
  • Accountable for implementation of medical standards within the group as requested from Global
  • Run meetings, provide strategic input into meeting agendas, and manage action items from those meetings.
  • Work with Global S&O to create processes that will streamline and simplify the business

Essential requirements:

  • Experience of working in the pharmaceutical industry
  • Previous experience working within Medical Affairs or strong knowledge of the role of Medical Affairs in the Commercialization process
  • Comprehensive understanding of the development and commercialisation of pharmaceutical products
  • Extensive project management experience - ability to oversee and manage multiple project deliverables in very short timelines
  • Proven experience of budget management
  • Experience of successful influencing cross functionally, cross-culturally and cross-brands
  • Experience of effective working in a multi-cultural, matrixed environment
  • Experience working in a global setting, managing stakeholders within different time zones
  • Experience preparing and/or delivering presentations to executive leadership

Desirable Requirements:

  • Graduate level degree in sciences or business degree
  • Six Sigma Medical/Process Excellence and/or Project Management/PMP/FPX certification is a plus but not required
  • Depth of understanding of medical, scientific and/or commercial pharmaceutical marketplace of Oncology is a plus
