Introduction to role
Are you ready to pioneer new frontiers in laboratory engineering? As a Laboratory Engineer, you will provide early engineering assessments of installed laboratory services and develop concept laboratory designs. You will support the scientific functions by translating their requirements into actionable concepts for our delivery teams. Your role will also include project management support, ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. You will manage project resources, including engineers and external suppliers, to deliver a portfolio of impactful projects.
Accountabilities
- Working across Cambridge Operations providing initial early engineering assessment of installed services and technical laboratory planning expertise developing concept laboratory designs
- Support minor works as a Project Manager responsible for the end-to-end delivery of a project.
- Ensuring delivery of the project within defined objectives, taking decisions to manage partner expectations by leading a multi-skilled, cross-disciplinary team to deliver the project to time, cost and quality requirements.
- Provides support to the Project Manager in planning, managing, and monitoring major projects from concepts through implementation.
- Key point of contact, managing business-critical relationships with established suppliers of construction and laboratory equipment/materials. Ensuring optimal supply and storage of critical components required for laboratory changes within estate.
- Accountability within governance process for laboratory change management and triaging requests raised through reporting processes. This may require leading interdisciplinary teams within various organisational structures and across organisations.
- Manages project resources including engineers and external suppliers to deliver a portfolio of projects.
- Assists in the preparation of budget status reports, forecast reports, reports on alignment to key performance indicators and other management reports.
- Works with project staff to prepare cost applications and budgets for new business development.
- Ensures compliance with engineering, safety and work standards and calls out any non-compliance senior team members.
Essential Skills/Experience
- Degree in Engineering or relevant experience
- Professional Qualification eg City & Guilds in related subject area
Desirable Skills/Experience
- Knowledge or previous experience in project management
- CAD experience
- BIM
