Director, Statistical Programming

The Director, Statistical Programming is a strategic leadership role for an experienced programming professional who can shape functional direction, lead and develop high-performing teams, and ensure excellence in clinical data analysis and reporting. This role is accountable for driving quality, compliance, standards, automation, and continuous improvement across complex projects or multiple drug programs, while partnering cross-functionally to deliver business impact. The ideal candidate combines deep technical and regulatory expertise with strong people leadership, sound judgment, and the ability to influence at both the team and organizational level. 

Accountabilities:

  • Provide input into the strategy for the programming function

  • Provides strategic, scientific and programming advice and expertise to the team

  • Defines programming strategic direction for implementation of statistical programming aspects of the clinical development program/s

  • Leads, manages and develops a group of programmers, providing guidance and mentorship. Manages training and timesheet compliance.

  • Work according to agreed functional and regional SHE strategy by ensuring proper management of SHE risks, incidents, reporting, follow-up and improvements.

  • Arranges and structures the team in order to create an environment where the team can work productively and collaboratively together

  • Defines, monitor and assess objectives for team

  • Provides input to capacity management for all projects in scope

  • Captures business needs and plans recruitment accordingly

  • Recruits and builds the team with the appropriate skill set

  • Maintains talent and ensures talent development

  • Maintains own and team knowledge of the latest industry and regulatory requirement to stay current with the programming practices

  • Accountable for managing contracting staff

  • Manages risk for assigned projects by making complex judgments and decisions

  • Overall accountability for the quality and compliance to internal, external and regulatory requirements for the delivery of programming aspects in clinical development

  • Ensures consistent approach and provides expertise to data standards and its implementation within own function or across Biometrics

  • Measures the compliance of and ensures that there is a consistent approach to data standards and automation and its implementation

  • Leads and contributes in improvement and organizational initiatives within and outside of function

  • Drives continuous improvement of the team and function

  • Oversees CRO Statement of Work and can act as the Programming representative in CRO Alliances

  • Represents AstraZeneca and the Programming function at external events

  • Influences/collaborates cross functionally at TA or Biometrics level by providing subject matter expertise

  • Collaborates cross-functionally and represents Programming leadership where required

Essential Experience/Skills:

  • Degree in Mathematics (i.e., Applied Math, Engineering, etc), Statistics, Computer Science, Life Science, or equivalent experience

  • Proven programming leadership experience

  • Thorough knowledge of the clinical development process

  • Thorough knowledge of industry standards

  • Demonstrated leadership capability and proven ability to lead teams towards a common goal

  • Demonstrated planning and organisational skill

  • Ability to influence relevant stakeholders and global teams

  • Ability to provide input to functional strategies

  • Ability to develop teams and individuals

  • Ability to manage risk in complicated or novel situations

  • Current knowledge of technical and regulatory requirements relevant to the role

  • Department mindset

  • Functional strategist

Desirable Experience /Skills:

  • Demonstrated experience designing and implementing business processes

  • Willingness and ability to travel

  • Excellent problem solving and conflict resolution skills
