This is what you will do:

  • The intern for R&D IT is a solution engineer that will work as part of a team with the R&D business unit, its underlying business units, and IT teams, toidentify, design, plan, and implement technology solutions.

  • The intern for R&D IT will engage with the team, and will collaborate with the formed team(s) to identifya demand as their summer project that will help advance Alexion R&D’s capabilities and provide a pathway for greater efficiency in our processing.

You will be responsible for:

  • Apply theoretical and engineering knowledge to implement innovative solutions

  • Learn the technical and architectural characteristics of scientific solutions and identify the best fit approach

  • Follow IT deliverables in accordance with Software Development Lifecycle, including testing, execution, and technical verification

  • Partner with solution architects, business leads, and technology partners to analyzetechnical requirements and design solutions

  • Document solutions following the solution blueprint process

  • Organize and lead meetings and workshops to ensure conversations with all the key business stakeholders involved and are aligned with overall strategy and approach. Ideally seeking overall consensus and full and accurate representation of Business Stakeholders.

You will need to have:

  • Keen desire to understand more about pharmaceutical processes, life sciences industry 

  • Curious problem solver who enjoys learning new things, working with others, and continuously growing their interpersonal and technical skills 

  • Committed to furthering Alexion’s mission of serving the patient

  • Knowledge of RPA and digital automation techniques are desirable

  • Think outside of the box

  • Solid technical and analytical skills, along with sharp business acumen

  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, along with a passion and aptitude for technology

  • Ability to quickly adapt to new projects and work on a diverse team

  • Effectively work in an extremely fast-paced, dynamic environment

  • Must be enrolled in aundergrad or grad program

  • Education: Major in computer science, life sciences, data sciences, business administration, mathematics, information systems/technology, computer engineering, privacy or a related field

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship. Alexion will not sponsor employment visas for this role.

  • The duties of this role are generally conducted in an office environment.  As is typical of an office-based role, employees must be able, with or without an accommodation to: use a computer; engage in communications via phone, video, and electronic messaging; engage in problem solving and non-linear thought, analysis, and dialogue; collaborate with others; maintain general availability during standard business hours.

We would prefer for you to have:

  • Novice understanding of R&D process within the pharmaceuticalindustry

  • Novice understanding of clinicaloperationsand practices

  • Experiencewith RPA and/or python, and digital automations techniques

  • High level of proficiency in MS office suite including Microsoft excel, powerpoint, word and outlook
