The Associate Director, Rare Neurology Thought Leader Liaisons Congress Lead for Alexion Rare Neurology is a strategic role within the US commercial organization, responsible for maximizing the impact and return on investment of congress activities across local, regional, and national scientific meetings. Serving as the central hub for neurology congress strategy and execution, this role ensures that Alexion's presence at key medical congresses drives meaningful engagement with thought leaders, advances brand positioning, and generates actionable insights that inform commercial strategy.

The Rare Neurology Congress Lead is accountable for developing comprehensive congress strategies that span the entire event lifecycle—from pre-congress planning and stakeholder engagement through on-site execution and post-congress follow-up. This role requires deep collaboration with Rare Neurology Thought Leader Liaisons (TLLs), the Subnational Tactics & Insights Lead, Sales Leadership, Medical Affairs, and Brand Marketing to identify high-value congress opportunities, optimize investment decisions, and create integrated experiences that extend the impact of scientific meetings far beyond the event itself.

The Rare Neurology Congress Lead reports directly to the Senior Director of Rare Neurology Thought Leader Liaisons and is recognized as the congress strategy expert whose planning rigor, cross-functional partnership, and execution excellence enable Alexion to maximize thought leader engagement, amplify scientific messaging, and drive competitive advantage in the gMG and NMOSD markets.

You will be responsible for:

Congress Strategy & Portfolio Management

  • Lead the identification, evaluation, and prioritization of local, regional, and national congresses where key stakeholders in gMG and NMOSD markets convene, ensuring strategic alignment with business objectives.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive congress calendar and investment framework that optimizes resource allocation across the portfolio of scientific meetings.
  • Partner with Rare Neurology TLLs, sales leadership, medical affairs, and brand teams to assess congress opportunities based on audience profile, scientific content, competitive presence, and strategic value.
  • Define sponsorship levels and tactical investments for each congress, balancing brand visibility, thought leader access, and ROI considerations.
  • Create congress-specific strategies that integrate medical education, KOL engagement, customer experience, and competitive intelligence objectives.

Pre-Congress Planning & Engagement

  • Design and execute pre-congress engagement strategies that prime key stakeholders for meaningful interactions and maximize on-site impact.
  • Collaborate with TLLs to identify priority attendees and develop personalized outreach plans that drive participation in Alexion-sponsored activities.
  • Partner with medical affairs to align on scientific messaging, data presentations, and educational content relevant to each congress.
  • Coordinate with brand marketing to ensure bespoke development of congress-specific materials, booth experiences, and digital engagement tools that enhance brand presence.
  • Lead internal planning sessions to ensure cross-functional alignment on congress objectives, roles, responsibilities, and success metrics.
  • Develop and distribute pre-congress communication materials for internal stakeholders, including congress briefing documents, attendee profiles, and tactical playbooks.

On-Site Congress Execution & Experience

  • Serve as the strategic lead for Alexion's on-site presence at major congresses, ensuring seamless execution of planned activities and agile response to emerging opportunities.
  • Orchestrate booth operations, symposia, hospitality events, and KOL meetings to create integrated experiences that advance strategic objectives in coordination with Global Events and Brand teams.
  • Partner with TLL Directors to facilitate high-impact interactions between Alexion leadership, medical experts, and key external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with TLL Subnational Tactics & Insights Lead for real-time intelligence gathering on competitive activities, scientific presentations, and market trends that inform tactical adjustments.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory, legal, and company policies governing congress activities and external engagements.

Post-Congress Follow-Up & Impact Amplification

  • Design and execute post-congress strategies that extend the value of scientific meetings through targeted follow-up and continued engagement.
  • Develop comprehensive post-congress communication plans for both internal stakeholders and external audiences, ensuring key insights and connections translate into sustained impact.
  • Partner with TLLs to facilitate timely follow-up with priority attendees, converting congress interactions into ongoing relationships and strategic opportunities.
  • Create and distribute post-congress reports that synthesize key learnings, competitive intelligence, stakeholder feedback, and actionable recommendations for commercial and medical teams.
  • Collaborate with medical affairs and marketing to amplify congress content through appropriate channels, extending the reach of scientific presentations and educational messaging.
  • Track and analyze congress metrics and ROI indicators, using data to continuously improve congress strategy and investment decisions.

Cross-Functional Partnership & Insights Integration

  • Serve as the primary liaison between TLLs, sales, medical affairs, and brand teams for all congress-related activities and planning.
  • Partner closely with the Subnational Tactics & Insights Lead to ensure congress intelligence informs broader market insights and tactical planning.
  • Facilitate regular congress planning forums that bring together cross-functional stakeholders to align on strategy, share insights, and optimize execution.
  • Translate congress learnings into actionable recommendations that inform brand strategy, medical education priorities, and field tactics.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with congress organizers, vendors, and partners to ensure Alexion maximizes value from congress investments.

Compliance & Integrity

  • Works with the highest degree of professionalism and in accordance with the company's Code of Ethics and Business Conduct.
  • Ensures all congress activities comply with applicable healthcare regulations, industry codes, and company policies.

You will need to have:

  • 5 plus years' work experience in bio/pharma, with demonstrated expertise in congress strategy, medical meetings, or event management
  • Experience in a combination of one or more of the following areas: marketing, medical affairs, congress management, or commercial operations
  • Proven track record of developing and executing successful congress strategies that drive business outcomes and stakeholder engagement
  • Strong project management skills with ability to manage multiple complex initiatives simultaneously across diverse geographies
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively across functions and influence without direct authority
  • Exceptional organizational and planning capabilities with meticulous attention to detail
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including ability to synthesize complex information into clear, actionable insights
  • Experience managing budgets and optimizing resource allocation to maximize ROI
  • Proficiency with congress management tools, CRM systems, and analytics platforms
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record
  • Travel requirements: Willing to travel >50% of the time including significant overnight and weekend travel, with concentrated travel during peak congress seasons (national & regional)
  • The duties of this role are conducted in both office and field environments. We would prefer for you to have:

  • Graduate degree (MBA, MSc, or related field)
  • Prior experience in Neurology or rare disease therapeutic areas
  • Established relationships within the gMG and NMOSD medical communities
  • Experience with thought leader engagement strategies and KOL management
  • Background in medical education or scientific communications
  • Demonstrated success in managing congress portfolios with significant investment levels
  • Strong analytical skills with experience using data to inform strategic decisions and measure impact
  • Self-driven with entrepreneurial mindset and ability to thrive in dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Proven ability to anticipate challenges, develop contingency plans, and adapt strategies in real-time

The annual base pay for this position ranges from 151,081.60 - 226,622.40 $ USD. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program. Benefits offered include a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and, health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans. Additional details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
