Senior Director R&D Health Equity

As the Health Equity in Science Lead, you will oversee AstraZeneca's global Health Equity in Science (HE) strategy and its implementation, shaping how the company approaches, communicates, and acts to drive improved and more equitable health outcomes on a global scale.
You will work across all R&D areas of the enterprise and with a broad variety of internal and external stakeholders to identify and implement interventions which meaningfully contribute to AstraZeneca’s ambition to improve everyone’s opportunity to live their healthiest life.
You will work in close collaboration with the Global Health Equity team in Global Corporate Affairs, lead the definition and implementation of the Health Equity in Science strategy aligned with the global ambition as well as establish and track yearly goals. You will lead the global Health Equity in Science working group and maintain oversight of yearly objectives and deliverables agreed at the local level, to align with the overall global strategy and contribute to key performance indicators.
Additionally, the successful candidate will be responsible for establishing external relationships with partners and subject matter experts to drive Health Equity in Science, including advocacy groups and external not-for-profit organizations.
This role is part of the Patient Science Team within Global Patient Safety within AstraZeneca’s Chief Medical Office.
Importantly, you will ensure the HE strategy is sustainable and complementary to existing initiatives. Leveraging the company’s leadership in various therapy areas and in environmental sustainability, you will ensure AstraZeneca is seen as a leader in health equity in Science, delivering broad impact for society, shareholders and employees. You will interact with top executives across the enterprise and the Board of Directors, maintaining high levels of engagement over the years to come.
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in science and relevant field (e.g., public health, life sciences, social sciences) preferred
- Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing patient-focused global level strategies
- Proven ability to lead and track progress of global working groups and deliverables
- Strong leadership skills and ability to operate with senior stakeholders
- Strong understanding of research and development, from discovery to launch
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to establish and maintain external partnerships
- Experience in knowledge sharing and best practice implementation within a research and development setting
